I've been using lxde/lxqt for a while, but I felt to switch to mate. After installing task-mate-minimal-1.22.0-1.mga7.noarch and starting no menu entries appear in the menu. Where does mate put its log file?! .xsession-errors does not exist anymore.
Apologies for the angst. I presume this happens repeatedly, for example is not resolved by re-starting X or re-booting. My guess it is something missing on the config file side. I have never added Mate to an existing system, but certainly installed it with one or more other desktops. Worth the effort: it is possibly the best. FWIW on my M7 system (from Classic ISO) are: $ rpm -qa | grep mate | grep menu | sort lib64mate-menu2-1.22.0-1.mga7 lib64mate-menu-gir2.0-1.22.0-1.mga7 mate-menu-18.04.3-1.mga7 matemenu-mageia-layout-1.22.0-1.mga7 mate-menus-1.22.0-1.mga7 $ sudo find /etc -name 'mate*' | grep menu /etc/alternatives/matemenu /etc/xdg/menus/matecc.menu /etc/xdg/menus/mate-settings.menu /etc/xdg/menus/mate-screensavers.menu /etc/xdg/menus/mate-preferences-categories.menu /etc/xdg/menus/mate-applications.menu /home/lewis/.cache/thumbnails/fail/mate-thumbnail-factory /home/lewis/.cache/mate /home/lewis/.cache/compizconfig/matecompat.pb /home/lewis/.config/autostart/mate-screensaver.desktop /home/lewis/.config/autostart/mate-power-manager.desktop /home/lewis/.config/mate /home/lewis/.config/mate-session /home/lewis/.config/menus/mate-applications-merged /home/lewis/.config/mate-menu Assigning this to Stig, who mainly nurses Mate. CC'ing Jani who might see the problem.

I think the reason is: matemenu-mageia-layout does not install the following symlink: /etc/xdg/menus/mate-applications.menu -> /etc/alternatives/matemenu it is installed in case of matemenu-vanilla-layout Still valid for mga8.

Why not fix this?
Of course we should fix it :) I just think it should go with the other issues in errata forn the now released RC ISO, and like the other issues be removed from errata whenever we release ISOs with that fixed.

As I can see wally is working on this package, maybe this is already fixed?!
Great. Then we can just tell users to perform an update. If at all note anything - because MATE is not on a Live, and we already tell users to use updates repos.
@wally: maybe it is still a good idea to do backport of the change. I assume it is just a small fix.
Actually I can't reproduce this with mga7 nor mga8. Which shell is used?
I'm not sure what relevance the shell has... I think you fixed this with your latest builds in mga8. Now after installing matemenu-mageia-layout (without vanilla-menu) the symlink exists. But before it was not. Btw. does it have any advantages to have both menus in parallel?
I presume matemenu-mageia-layout is installed per default. So if users experience empty mate menus, they can just update?

it was only fixed in mga8 - but if noone except of me ever noticed it, we can also set this one to resolved. I've already updated all my machines to mga8 :)
:) Did it make into RC?
Ah, no by date i think it did not. Registered it as fixed (by updating) https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_8_Errata#Other
