Evince issue from comment 5 should be fixed with evince-3.38.0-3.mga8.
Scriplet error for samba-client already fixed in SVN on December 9. Will get pushed with the next security update.

Muffin conflicts from comment 4 should be fixed with muffin-4.8.0-2.mga8.
My own more recent big upgrade upgrade was a success. Can Brian & Ben confirm an up-to-date trial?

Created attachment 12304 [details] Install and debug log from MGA7 to MGA8 upgrade If went pretty badly with the upgrade ending in errors and looping. Fun Note: this is a gnome upgrade. MGA7 was originally built from a Live iso. I'll attach screen shots.
Created attachment 12305 [details] screen shots The first one I see is the samba-client error. I click okay and it processes for a while and comes to the next screen. I click okay, it tries again and then comes back again to the same screen. There is not way to get out of this except to reboot. System does reboot to MGA8 and functions for me.
> If went pretty badly with the upgrade ending in errors > The first one I see is the samba-client error. Having scanned the entire Install log, things looked *good* EXCEPT for 1) Error parsing key “help” in schema “org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys” as specified in override file “/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/glib2-branding.gschema.override”: 0-10:can not parse as value of type 'as'. Ignoring override for this key. " which occured in pairs every so often. No other literal 'Errors'. I saw this myself, and believed the 'ignoring' bit. Perhaps this specifically should be bugged. > and looping I could not see any in the install log. It seemed to end OK. OK, see your previous comment 11. 2) l615 %triggerun(samba-client-4.10.18-1.1.mga7.x86_64) scriptlet failed, exit status 1 Which is what you describe above. It was the *only 'fail'; to bug here. So the upgrade was extremely good, much better than you feared. Did it carry on upgrading while you wrestled with the error dialogue? Or stick? It looks as if despite this scriptlet failure, the upgrade went to end. Re the re-boot, did you do it sooner 'interrupt the upgarde), or later (when you thought it had finished)? What to? The upgraded system? If so, somehow it went to end despite this error. Re-booting in the middle of any update/upgrade is asking for trouble (even if you had to). You can check whether the upgrade really did get stuck by doing, on the upgraded system # urpme --auto-orphans $ rpm -qa | grep .mga7 [should be none or almost] $ rpm -qa | grep .mga8 | wc -l [count rather than list them] Leaving the debug log for the moment...
I would get to the error message. Click okay, it would try again and then come back to the same screen. I clicked through that several times and finally concluded there was no way out, believe me I tried to find a way. <ctrl><alt><del> did not work either so it was caught in a constant try, fail, click okay loop. I am intrigued by all the .mga8 pkgs shown by auto-orphans. Also by the eventual number of residual .mga7 packages, except the kernels which routinely get left. > $ rpm -qa | grep .mga8 You forgot the | wc -l ! Apart from the '$ rpm -qa | grep .mga7' output list, the others were not necessary. The samba-client script error is definite. Assigning the bug in the first instance for that to samba maintainer Buchan. For the other repeated glitch 'Ignored' thing, I shall raise a bug for it.

ok don't smack me. I went back - Cloned back the MGA7, updated it and then ran the upgrade again using the option to add updates from network. Still got the samba client error, but the upgrade completely finished.
I have just noticed comment 7 which says "Scriplet error for samba-client already fixed in SVN on December 9. Will get pushed with the next security update." ?
Yes, I already fixed this bug in SVN. Fix wull go out with the inevitable next Samba security update, at the least.
In order to avoid the message for people upgrading, it may be worth it to go ahead and push it as a bugfix update.

I second that this fix gets out before releasing M8 & offering upgrade; if not, it is bound to cause angst. Especially if users hit Brian's comment 11 & comment 13 dialogue loop. Talking of which, comment 15 says > Still got the samba client error, but the upgrade completely finished. but without mention of the grief in the two comments cited. Does this mean that did *not* happen in the end (despite the samba-client scriptlet error)?
HI Lewis, When I opted for network updates during install it still gave the samba error, but the loop out issue was resolved. This will not go well for people where computer cannot connect to the network during the install process, but it did resolve the loop-out issue I had. The Samba error still happened, but my understanding is there is a fix coming for MGA7 to address that. Brian
Yes could we push this update please. As we released "RC" I think some people are already trying upgrading. For now: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_8_Errata#Samba

Increasing to release blocker.
Priority: High => release_blocker
Decreasing priority/severity. I mis-remembered the impact of scriptlet failures, thinking they would cause the transaction to be rejected, possibly leading to a cascade of errors blocking the upgrade from completing. That did happen in this report, but was due to the evince and muffin conflict errors, not samba. I'll retest a 32 bit upgrade with evince and muffin installed to ensure the problems have been fixed.

Tested i586 upgrade with evince, muffin, roundcubemail, samba installed. Completed ok with no scriplet errors or conflicts. Closing as fixed.

Strange something fixed the scriptlet errors. Anyway marking as fixed in errata, will be removed at release.

Unmarked FIXED in Errata
If we push the fix to mga7 and verify, it can be removed from errata?
Yes, as there is no change required in Mageia 8 or the iso images, and it's required to have the system fully updated before upgrading.
From comment 22, this do not hinder upgrade. Does it break samba? Per bug 28419 fixing samba in mga7 would mean error is trigged then instead. That medicine do not seem worth it.

Some news @ Buchan Milne? ;-) We need a fix for Mageia 7 to let smooth upgrade to M8.
(In reply to Morgan Leijström from comment #34) > From comment 22, this do not hinder upgrade. > Does it break samba? > > Per bug 28419 fixing samba in mga7 would mean error is trigged then instead. > That medicine do not seem worth it. If proper conflicts are added, the old package is removed just before the new one is installed, preventing the file conflicts from happening. Comment 27 was wrong. I'm not sure what happened and don't have those logs now. Also, when a file conflict is detected, My memory was correct. It does cause all packages in the same rpm transaction to fail to install, which on an upgrade can trigger a cascade leading to an unusable system. The severity of the problem in an upgrade depends on what other packages happen to be in the same transaction.
Remember this isn't a file conflict, it's a scriplet error.
Sorry, mixing up the updates still having problems.
> We need a fix for Mageia 7 to let smooth upgrade to M8. You mean via the installer? Upgrade via urpmi is smooth, even with this "error". I have also tested with a clean Mageia 7 VM with samba-client and cups installed, upgrading via the installer. I get the error message, but the upgrade completes without any issues. After the upgrade, I checked, and all package updates had been applied. But, if people think we really need it, we can push the update.
Status: REOPENED => RESOLVEDResolution: (none) => WORKSFORME
yes what is important is that we don't have error aborting the installation, this is the most important. If it does not abort and allow to intall mga8, this is not a blocker bug. Can it be fixed in a second step as a normal update ?
CC: (none) => mageia
Yes, the plan was always to fix it in the next security update.

I wonder it this may have caused Bug 28606, where user found cifs-utils was missing after the upgrade from Mageia 7.
I can't think of any way it would cause that.

So can we push the update? And add in errata the the error message is harmless?
