Description of problem: Usability, Perception of quality After updating some system components, user is asked to reboot computer. When user click OK, updater present a long list of updates! User reactions I and others once felt and have seen other new users experience: § Did it mean i should abort updating now? § Is it a glitch it asked me to reboot, but then it want to continue? § How critical? Suggestion: Just better wording! One example: "For best experience please save your work and reboot your computer after updating" For advanced users it is nice to have added reason like it do already i.e " because of updated system components: foo." Version-Release number of selected component: Since Mandrake times ------------- Sidenotes: There was recently a discussion on dev list about if we should try make the tools to manage restart of services, but that is too much work, at least for now. There is also a risk restarting services that running programs use. David W summed it up in: https://ml.mageia.org/l/arc/qa-discuss/2020-12/msg00359.html One problem we do have is that when updating while running Plasma, it may happen that the shut down or reboot options from menu does not work. No solution yet.

As far as I seet his message: I see a required restart for kernel, glibc, systemd and dbus. (In reply to Morgan Leijström from comment #0) > One problem we do have is that when updating while running Plasma, it may > happen that the shut down or reboot options from menu does not work. No > solution yet. I do see this while updating QT or some core Plasma components under Cauldron. To the required restart, we should add X!1, QT library, GTK, sddm/GDM/lightdm... The list can be longer. Also to make sure security updates are applied and programs use corrected new code.
