Description Dennis Griffin 2020-12-03 20:17:53 CET
Description of problem:

When starting GE an error msg is displayed (see url) and there is no connection to google.com so the program is basically non-functional. When started from command line:

[dennis@noob free]$ google-earth
[1203/105127:ERROR:net_util.cc(2195)] Not implemented reached in bool net::HaveOnlyLoopbackAddresses()
[1203/105127:ERROR:x509_certificate_nss.cc(730)] CERT_PKIXVerifyCert for www.google.com failed err=-8181
[1203/105127:ERROR:nss_ocsp.cc(581)] No URLRequestContext for OCSP handler.

I am guessing this happened because of the update to nss on 19-Nov-2020 (advisory MGASA-2020-0427)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

googleearth v. 7.1.4.1529

How reproducible:

Every time program is started.

google-earth-pro-stable-7.3.1.4507-0. is working on my Mageia 7 system.

That's the version from
$ urpmq --list-url|grep earth
google-earth http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/rpm/stable/x86_64

that I've installed using urpmi.

So I suspect the problem is with the newer version of google-earth rather
then a Mageia problem.

I also see google earth fail to work properly, due to connection problems,
but they resolve themselves within a few hours or at most, a day. I suspect
the google servers may be getting overloaded at times.

I've installed google-earth-pro v.7.3.3.7786 (64-bit) which works fine. Thanks Dave!

Even old versions of Google Earth Free (eg from 2017) have the same problem problem of claiming not to be able to connect. Google Earth Pro has the problem on Mga8 of segfaulting which can be fixed with
cd /opt/google/earth/pro/
ln -s libssl.so.1.0.0 libssl.so.1.1
ln -s libcrypto.so.1.0.0 libcrypto.so.1.1

(See bug 28018 )
