Nothing more to say than in the summary as this bug report has got its answer...
(except it is true for cauldron-tainted and mageia-tainted-update-testing

mplayer who is in tainted works without faac no ?
like playing mp3 et some other stuff

Source RPM: (none) => mplayer

Comment 2 Philippe Didier 2011-09-18 23:07:46 CEST
Yes but mencoder can't create aac files ... nor mpa
Comment 3 Oliver Burger 2011-09-18 23:19:28 CEST
Faac is a legal defficulty and I can't see it anywhere.

Where did you find it in tainted?

There is an alternative (vo-aacenc), but I don't know if mplayer can be built against it

Colin provided it three hours ago

One line to modify in mplayer spec file

88 	%define build_faac 0
becomes
88 	%define build_faac 1

and that's done

The legal difficulty seems not to exist for the repos of other distributions (even for plf)

Sorry for the typo : I meant aac, and m4a or mp4

Since last meeting it seems that FAAC won't be neither in tainted nor in non-free repo.
There won't either exist a special non-free&tainted repo for now :

Mageia-dev meeting Wed Sep 21 2011 :

"as a policy: tainted will have only free software inside"

"policy will be reviewed for Mageia 2 to add potentially non-free tainted repo"

 That may mean that this bug report can't be fixed now, but must not be closed as wontfix and may remain as a reminder until the next policy review for Mageia 2...

Depends on: (none) => 1730

Summary: mplayer may be rebuilt with faac-devel in tainted repo since faac is now in tainted => mplayer may be rebuilt with faac-devel in non-free-tainted repo when faac is in non-free-tainted

When is that policy review going to be?

Closing as there is no plan to create a nonfree tainted repository at the moment.
