If someone wants to cancel or postpone install there is no obious way to do it. Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
For now, Alt+Ctrl+F{1,2,3,4} then Alt+Ctrl+Delete to reboot.

I think that it would usefull to add a confirmation before format the disk (in the step when to choose the partition to format) and i agree with the buttons previous - next when is possible during installation wizard

Assigning to maintainer @ Thierry If it isn't possible yet to add a button to cancel install, would it be possible to show the instructions Ahmad gave in comment 1 in several install steps?

When I read this bug report, comment 8 of bug 727 popped to my mind ("new users panic when they see the "generating bootloader" popup before they have had a chance to configure it. I recall one user just pulling the plug at that stage in fear of what was happening!") This report reminded me of bug 1042, too: when that bug happened to me, I rebooted. It was very nice to escape from the confusing situation that way.
And, TBH, when I hadn't gotten used to my touch pad yet, I accidentally chose a language totally unknown to me and was in the next step. How desperate will an enduser get when this happens and he can't do anything but wait till Mageia is installed? BTW: If the button is in the language you picked, it won't help in this situation

Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

Installer enhancement, so keeping as a cauldron report for Mageia 3.

How to reboot was added to our documentation (see the note here: http://docteam.mageia.nl/en/installer/content/selectInstallClass.html ) I was wondering whether we should have a line: "Got stuck?" in every installer help page with a link to this note. WDYT?
Still valid.

(In reply to Filip Komar from comment #0) > If someone wants to cancel or postpone install there is no obious way to do > it. > > @ Filip It is in our documentation how to do it since Mageia 2 was released. Is that good enough for you? It might be better to leave it at that. We certainly shouldn't get a button to cancel install in every installer screen, without first discussing the pros and cons. After the partitioning step (when at least the / partition gets formatted) or after deciding to upgrade an existing install (when packages start to get upgraded) the system will neither have, nor be restored to, it's original state if you reboot from tty2. A cancel button in those screens won't return you to the original state of your system, either. IMHO, if someone wants to install Mageia, he/she should read the documentation before starting, so he/she won't need that button. If tv or someone else would enjoy adding a "cancel install" button or a "how to cancel install" message in the selectInstallClass (so the Install or Upgrade) screen and the screens before that one, then I'm not against it, though. However, I'm very much against adding such a button or message to any screen _after_ the selectInstallClass screen! The selectKeyboard and doPartitionDisks screen might look like valid candidates for a cancel button, but selectKeyboard can be called from the Summary step, too, so after big changes to the system were written, and it does occasionally happen that one is returned to the doPartitionDisks screen after at least one partition has been formatted by installer (even if that probably shouldn't happen). I think newbies will encounter less problems when they just let their install continue at this stage, and go with any installer defaults, then when they interrupt install and try to reboot into a system that no longer exists or (in case of a partial upgrade install) is most likely broken. @ Filip Are you OK with closing this bug, or changing it to only requesting such a button (or message about how to safely reboot) in the selectInstallClass screen and - maybe - the screens before it? In case you go for the last option: Then there is still another problem: someone who adjusts or creates partitions with diskdrake needs to reboot and will see those first screens again. However, clicking "cancel" then won't revert the disk to its original state.
This is a usability enhancement and as such even more focused on newcomers. It can give a bit better feeling to some people. At least in those install dialogs where such request is reasonable. But I do agree that this needs serious thinking as it probably require not so easy changes of our installers. But useful in some cases nonetheless. You can close it if you think that is not important but looking at a bug 5279 and users here I think that it's not unimportant ;).

Of course, the summary can be changed again! I think also the following text should be added to the selectInstallClass screen: "Please make sure you've read our installer manual on https://doc.mageia.org before continuing. Alternatively, press the "Quit" button now. No changes were written to your disk, yet." Feel free to start a thread on dev ml, there might be much better ideas than I have!
