Description Jybz 2020-08-28 21:38:05 CEST
Hello !

Now Mageia4arm is an official Mageia's project. We will improve it and I hope soon produce the first official ISO of Mageia for a SBC.

As my only arm device is a BananaPro, I start with this one. Currently, the bootloader are in binary form inside the git project, which is mixing source code and this binaries...

With this bug report, I'm shifting the binaries inside the BS and will remove them from mageia's git.

I modify the spec of u-boot in order to add the bootloader binary for BananaPro. Currently, I see that the spec is still not good as it makes no differencies between armv7 and aarch64. I will suggest another modification after finishing the BananaPro cycle.

See spec and patch in the next comment.

Hi, thanks reporting this Jybz!

Currently in Cauldron we have:
urpmq -i u-boot-tools
u-boot-20180507-4.mga8.src.rpm

Upstream (https://ftp.denx.de/pub/u-boot/ and https://gitlab.denx.de/u-boot/u-boot), we have a u-boot-2020.10-rc3 version published on 2020-08-26.
https://ftp.denx.de/pub/u-boot/u-boot-2020.10-rc3.tar.bz2

Are we outdated? Seems so.
Are your proposed patches already upstream?

Sadly, no registered maintainers to u-boot-tools, assigning to all packagers.

Comment 8 Jybz 2020-08-28 23:23:52 CEST
Being outdated doesn't really matter, u-boot is more like a firmware for 10 000 boards, when there is a newer version, it maybe improves something for xtensa architecture, or what ever, there are too few changes on what we are interrested.

Our (current) interrest are :
rpi2, rpi3, bananaPro, odroid xu4.
Maybe soon rpi4.

rpi2 and bananaPro are armv7.
rpi3 can run armv7 (mostly) but also aarch64. The spec is currently "wrong" as it compiles also rpi2 on aarch64. I will change it later, when I will focus on rpi2 and rpi3.

No, the spec I suggest is based on upstream 20200706, I was already on it two days ago and didn't saw the new version. But it doesn't matter as it is a RC, and as changes are not so important for our case.
Comment 9 Jybz 2020-08-28 23:28:13 CEST
(but at least, it will helps for aarch64, see bug 26028
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26028#c16 )

pascal, can you take a look to this ?
In the same time can we update u-boot ? ( to fix CVEs )

CC: (none) => mageia, pterjan

Comment 14 Nicolas Lécureuil 2021-01-10 15:57:05 CET
btw no need to update u-boot for CVE all is OK from cauldron POV.
Comment 15 Aurelien Oudelet 2021-07-06 13:14:46 CEST
Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021.
There will not have any further bugfix for this release.

You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible.

@reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it.

@packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead.

This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.

Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved,

Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly.

This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which support ended on June 30th 2021.

Thanks,
Marja
