Description Sohel Fares 2020-08-23 19:09:15 CEST
Description of problem:

This is a follow up on the same problem reported in Bug 24493 for Mageia 6 that was not addressed and closed for not supporting Mageia 6 anymore.

In Mageia 5 an email received with a meeting invitation is displayed in a manner to allow you to accept/refuse/differ etc the meeting and consequently to send the response to the author and to enter the meeting details in korganizer.

In Mageia 6 and 7 and 7.1 this has disappeared and the received email just provides the cal.ics attachement with no means of response.

Note that Kontact in Kubuntu 18.04 (Kontact version 5.7 displays the email properly.

Finally the problems occurs on my three 64bit computers

Another problem occurs with Korganiser when a meeting in manually entered: Impossible to set the time of the day its starts and the time in finishes.

How reproducible: always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Prepare a meeting invitation from another computer.
2. Send invitation email to the computer with faulty kontact

Note: I am diappointed with the priority assignment of bugs. I receive a lot of corrections with the updates for which I do not perceive any advantage. This bug affects the use of Mageia daily with the emails and interactions with the correspondants..... as if Mageia wants everyone to switch to "gmail"
Comment 1 Aurelien Oudelet 2020-08-23 21:49:53 CEST
Hi, thanks for reporting this bug.

Us at Mageia, as a community driven distribution, we consider every bug seriously. This is blocker for you and would be same for other users.
Akonadi and Kontact suite in Plasma have longtime bugs, since day one.

You reported a bug in Mageia 5 era that pursue in 7. I'm sad to read this.

You said Kubuntu 18.04 version's Kontact (5.7) displays email properly but not similar version in Mageia. These versions are outdated now. Have you ever tried version in today Mageia 8 Beta 1? Or even KDE Neon? Which they provide updated Kontact version .

I will take a look if upstream there is something new.

Before doing this, could you provide us some details:
- which is your email provider?
- received email were written by what email programs?

Sometimes Microsoft Outlook does not respect some basics standard to make appointment in email, or this is written specially for a Microsoft Exchange environement.

Meanwhile, Assigned to the package maintainer team.

@Aurelien
You got in ahead of me! I think we should take this back until the requested info & screenshots are attached.
--------------------------------
@Sohel
Re bug 24493, you could have re-opened it and updated the Version field to '7' rather than create this new bug. No matter, leave as-is. Sorry this has been left.

As for the main point of *this* bug, I cannot test it myself.
It would help if you could attach:
- a screenshot from "Kontact in Kubuntu 18.04 (Kontact version 5.7) displays the email properly";
- a screenshot of the Mageia equivalent showing the defect.
The version numbers are confusing: our 19.04.0, and Kubuntu 18.04 Kontact version 5.7. If this is real, then Aurelien could be right in suggesting that an update of Kontact at some point changed the functionality - and why it worked with Mageia 5.
Can you show the old 'correct' functionality in another up-to-date Linux? If you can, it is a Mageia problem; if not, a KDE upstream one - in which case we would ask you to log the complaint there.

> as if Mageia wants everyone to switch to "gmail"
No way!

Well, I have just tried this (korganizer-19.04.0-1.mga7), and using 'New Event' (if that is what you meant) certainly allowed start & end times to be chosen.
Can you please open a different bug for this problem, and attach a screenshot of the offending Korganizer window.

@Lewis,

I'm still learning ;). I take good note. And yes attaching screenshots is generally better than long long words, Even today, some screencasts could help.

Could you provide us some details:
- which is your email provider?: Videotron au canada
- received email were written by what email programs? any : Videotron Gmail etc

I will provide screenshots of what I say and add them here.

To Lewis Smith:
I received a email asking me to create a new bug. I would have preferred to update the old!
As for the Korganizer problem : After surfing in the internet I was able to fix it if I switch the language from french to english but I want to keep the language in french. This problem would prevent me from creating a proper invitation from Mageia7!

Stay posted for the requested additional info.

Many thanks

Invitation by gmail and received by Kubuntu 19.10

Kubuntu Kontact receives the email with invitation data and allows easy responses. Acceptance of the meeting generate a email to the sender and registered properly in the Kubuntu Korganizer. This is how it should be.

Same Gmail invitation but received by a Mageia7 Kontact

As compared to the previous attachement, in the Mageia7 Kontact received email there is only the invite.ics file attached and its contents explicited. But there is no means of response. This is what I am reporting as a bug. It is useless.

Invitation by Mageia7 Kontact and received by Kubuntu19 Kontact

The attachement shows the correct way the email should be presented. It proves Mageia7 generates the invitation almost* properly and Kubuntu displays it properly. Kubuntu registers the invitation in Korganizer once accepted.

*The only problem is that Mageia7 does not send the proper invitation start and stop times I entered. It resets them to 00:00. Thats relates to the M7 Korganizer problem of not respecting the entered times.

Same invitation generated by Mageia7 Kontact and received by another Mageia7 computer

Mageia7 Kontact email displays the attached cal.ics contents contrary to the Kubuntu 19.10 Kontact which displays the means of providing the response to the invitation.

This proves that Mageia7 Kontact generates the invitation properly except the start and stop times but fails to display the invitation data properly.

This screen print is from the Kubuntu Korganizer once it accpted the Mageia7 invitation

One can see that Mageia7 Korganizer reset any entered start and stop times to 00:00 before sending. I had put other start and stop times.

I can post a similar screeprint from the Mageia7 Korganizer before the invitation is sent. One can see that it refuses to register the start and stop times.

Note: This problem is related to the French language of my setup. Nevertheless I consider it part of this bug because if it is not addressed I cannot convey the complete invitation/meeting required times.
Comment 10 Aurelien Oudelet 2020-08-24 18:14:03 CEST
Seems a serious bug and still present in Cauldron (Mageia 8b1) and with KDE-PIM suite 5.15 (20.08) version.

As if some missing dependencies here.
I checked around all KMail / KOrganizer settings. Not found a switch to toogle correctly this.

In Mageia 8b1, time can be set and correctly registered.

Are you sure? When UI is in English, all seems to work?

Oui, très francophone, mais les échanges Bugzilla doivent rester en anglais pour
que tout le monde puisse lire.

(Yes, I'm French, but Bugzilla exchanges must be in English to permit other people to read and understand).
Comment 11 Sohel Fares 2020-08-24 19:41:25 CEST
Aurelien, I have done the following experiment:

1-In Kontact selected "Calendrier" then "Configuration" then "Configurer la date et l'heure".
2-The system responded by presenting a window Including the title "Configurer les traduction de Plasma"
3- Selecting "Formats" I changed the Region from "Quebec french" to "US english"
4- After restarting the computer Korganizer retained the start and stop times (works correctly as expected). However it switched from the 24h format to the AM/PM format and the Calendar switched from french to english.

Note I did not try other regions...

@Sohel
Thank you for the screenshots.
One thing remains to clarify : the exact versions of Kontact & Korganizer which work (Kubuntu). Are they really old ? I do not understand the big difference between Kubuntu' 5.7 and our 19.04, except that Aurelien points out that our Cauldron KDE-PIM suite is at 5.15 - but even that is far in advance of 5.7. Are you sure that the working Kubuntu version is up-to-date re KDE/Plasma ?

It has also occured to me that this merits discussion on a KDE and/or Kubuntu forum. Can you try that ? You can quote this bug and the attachments URLs. It seems important to get other views on this. It is odd that you alone are hitting this problem : are you the sole Mageia user to use this software as you do ?

[Moi aussi je parle français ; mais votre anglais est très bien].

@Aurelien
> In Mageia 8b1, time can be set and correctly registered.
Are you able to try this on your French system with Mageia 7?
Comment 13 Aurelien Oudelet 2020-08-24 21:21:18 CEST
@Lewis, in facts, KDE-PIM is released with Plasma Applications that are numbered YY.MM like Ubuntu numbers) but there is also a 5.xx number in "About App" dialog.

KMail in Cauldron is 5.15.0 (20.08.0)...

And, I don't no longer have a Mageia 7 system.

BUT afterwards, KMail in Cauldron is not able to correctly read such formatted email, like in screenshots.
Comment 14 Sohel Fares 2020-08-24 21:37:27 CEST
Is it useful if I send the invitation emails (both gmail and kubuntu) so you can try them on your systems?
Comment 15 Aurelien Oudelet 2020-08-24 21:42:02 CEST
Already tried, sadly notice it is not correctly function on Mageia.
Comment 16 Sohel Fares 2020-08-24 22:15:40 CEST
@Lewis, Here are the different versions:

Mageia5: kdepim4-4.14.10-1.3.mga5.src.rpm (this works perfectly)
Magei6: kontact4-17.12.2-1.mga6.src.rpm (here is where the functionlity was broken)
Kubuntu 19.10 that I am using: Version 4:19.04.3-0ubuntu (that works perfectly)
For Mageia7 you already have the version.

Strange I am the the only one reporting it. May the other users switched another program. But you seem to be able to reproduce it. If not I will send you the receive invitation emails.

As for the time setting you can try on an english system by using the method I described in comment11 and selecting Quebec french in the the Formats/Regions window instead of what is already there.
Comment 17 Aurelien Oudelet 2020-08-24 22:41:36 CEST
@Sohel

Please do, send me such invitation, to see it on Mageia 8b1.
