Description of problem: When you set up autologin for the first time, the GUI allows you to finish without selecting a valid desktopsession. The field for this is default empty, and it is not obvious that it has to be filled. A look in /etc/sddm.conf reveals that the session is set to ".session", which is invalid, and autologin fails without any explanation or error message: [Autologin] Session=.desktop User=xxxxx If you clean up /etc/sddm.conf and try again, the username and sessiontype is preselected in the GUI, and everything is OK. You can not continue without selecting one or the other. Don't ask me why, seems to be a "firsttime"-type bug, and occured once after a clean install of Mageia 8 A1. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xxxxx@localhost:~$ cat /etc/mandriva-release Mageia release 8 (Cauldron) for x86_64 xxxxx@localhost:~$ uname -a Linux localhost.localdomain 5.7.9-desktop-1.mga8 #1 SMP Thu Jul 16 09:02:00 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux xxxxx@localhost:~$ date lø. 01. aug. 20:31:53 +0200 2020
Created attachment 11783 [details] Screenshot showing the problem of blank desktop Thank you for the report, which this screenshot illustrates (MCC-Start-Autologin).
Sorry for the Welsh; it is the blank drop-down list default entry for the desktop to choose. Assigning to the tools group.
Assignee: bugsquad => mageiatoolsSummary: SDDM autologin tool in MCC crippled => SDDM autologin tool in MCC accepts a blank (= no) desktop choice
I confirm the same. cat /etc/sddm.conf # Generated by SDDM Configuration Editor [Autologin] Session=.desktop User=yves which is not working. In my case, my desktop is LXQt, but this one is not listed in available sessions under MCC. I have only: IceWM IceWMSession Openbox Plasma(X11)
