Are tainted repo activate?

Comment 2 Brian Rockwell 2020-07-15 16:02:26 CEST
no it isn't. But flac is open source.

Need me to install from tainted?
Comment 3 Olav Vitters 2020-07-16 10:22:28 CEST
task-gnome-minimal requires:
- task-codec-audio
- task-codec-video

Both of these recommend various codecs. They are in "main" and in tainted. Tainted is for anything affected by e.g. copyright issues or patents. Various codecs are often in tainted because of patents; this despite the software usually being free software.

task-codec-audio recommends gstreamer1.0-flac already from "main".

Could you check if gstreamer1.0-flac is installed? If not, then maybe we aren't including it somehow.

yes it is installed.

I'll pull all gstream items out and attach so you can review. Let me know if you want anything else.

Well, with Tainted in operation, I put into ~/Music:
 Trac3.flac
 Trac8.m4a
Gnome Music is another of those cryptic bare Gnome applications, which starts with nothing more than
"Hey DJ
The contents of your Music folder will apear here"
except they do not. You have to click the 'Music folder' link to see a relevant file manager window, which then did show the 2 files.

Okay - go figure - in latest beta install on intel it works now.

I am suggesting we close this.
