Description of problem:I installed Mga8 Cinnamon 32 Bits in Vbox. The installation is successful, but when I get to the desktop I get this warning "Currently the error recovery mode is running. If you suspect that the lock source is a local extension, mini-app, or desktop mini-app, you can disable the downloaded add-ins by using the following check box". This error has not appeared to me in the 64-bit version of cinnamon, and even if you disable the extensions as suggested, the warning still appears. The panel with the application menu doesn't appear so I can't keep testing the desktop environment. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Mageia 8 isos Alpha 32Bits with Cinnamon Desktop How reproducible: Install Mageia 8 Cinnamon 32Bits and run Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Mageia 8 Cinnamon 32Bits 2. Reboot 3. When I get to the desktop the warning appears
Thanks for reporting this, and saying what ISO you used. This needs to be confirmed by other QA ISO testers. I will draw their attention to this problem. At least those using VBox can easily try 32-bit ISOs; real hardware is getting hard to find.
Summary: Cinnamon desktop crash => Cinnamon desktop crash, M8 Alpha 32-bitCC: (none) => lewyssmith
I cannot confirm. Installed using the i586 classic iso under vb, just unselecting Plasma and selecting Cinnamon, with everything else kept as defaults. No updates installed. This is on a Mageia 7 x86_64 host. Most likely this is related to the virtualbox settings for the guest on the Display tab. Increase the video memory to 128MB. Set the graphics controller to VBoxSVGA.

Jose, please alter the settings for that guest and confirm whether or not that fixes the issue.
The machine is well configured with VboxSVGA and 128 mb of graphics.
Let's compare the rest of the settings. General Type Linux Version Mageia 32(bit) Shared Clipboard - Bi directional Drag & Drop - disabled. Disk encryption - unchecked System Base Memory 4096MB (I have 16GB on host) Chipset PIIX3 Pointing Device - PS/2 Mouse Enable I/O APIC - selected Enable EFI - unchecked Hardware Clock in UTC Time - selected (mine is set to utc in bios) Processors - 2 (quad core host) Execution Cap - 100% Enable PAE/NX - selected Paravirtualization Interface - Default Enable VT-x/AMD-V - selected Enable Nested Paging - selected Display Video Memory - 128MB Graphics Controller - VBoxSVGA Acceleration - Enable 3D selected See if any of those settings fix the problem.
Additional info. The free command shows 482MB ram used. I do get a warning about hardware acceleration not being available, and to check the video drivers, but I expect that's because the guest does not have the virtualbox-guest-additions package installed.
This my configuration: General Type Linux Version Mageia 32(bit) Shared Clipboard - disabled Drag & Drop - disabled. have installed Cinnamon only DE from the 32Bit CI onto real h/w. unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the issue. uname -a Linux localhost 5.6.15-desktop-1.mga8 #1 SMP Fri May 29 21:24:31 UTC 2020 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux lscpu Architecture: i686 CPU op-mode(s): 32-bit, 64-bit Byte Order: Little Endian Address sizes: 36 bits physical, 48 bits virtual CPU(s): 4 On-line CPU(s) list: 0-3 Thread(s) per core: 2 Core(s) per socket: 2 Socket(s): 1 Vendor ID: GenuineIntel CPU family: 6 Model: 58 Model name: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3340M CPU @ 2.70GHz Stepping: 9 CPU MHz: 1482.099 CPU max MHz: 3400.0000 CPU min MHz: 1200.0000 BogoMIPS: 5387.75 Virtualization: VT-x L1d cache: 64 KiB L1i cache: 64 KiB L2 cache: 512 KiB L3 cache: 3 MiB

Thanks for all the follow-up. @José: Can you say whether your VBox host is M7 or M8? Dave's is M7 (c2). Just in case it matters. Ben's case is real hardware: > unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the issue Fortunately, perhaps?
Hi, my Vbox is Mageia 8 alpha. Greetings.
(In reply to Jose Manuel López from comment #10) > Hi, my Vbox is Mageia 8 alpha. Well, here is a difference that might matter. @Dave: can you poke QA to try this problem: * M8 Vbox * M8 Alpha 32-bit Classic ISO * Install Cinnamon desktop * Test comment 0. Leaving it with BugSquad for the moment.
Cannot reproduce this behavior, M8 B1 Classic ISO 32 bits. M7 x86_64 Host. We will assume the problem was not reproducible, or has been fixed in one of the updates in Cauldron. Closing as OLD.
