Hello Ben
Is this the same machine as for bug 26721? I ask because this:
"grub2-install: error: efibootmgr failed to register the boot entry: Input/output error"
is the same. Could it be the same reason?
In comment 0:
> reboot is unsuccessful
How does this manifest itself?

> edit the system boot menu to enable the usual grub2 menu to be presented
Which 'system boot menu', edited how?

likely, but as the installers are different, I thought it best to make a separate report

Coreboot device presents a efi shell.

Asus T100TA which is dual boot with winX, boots straight to windows.
digging into the bios of this unit does not find a "mageia" entry to boot to

Coreboot EFI bios allows you to search for any file on any partition in the device.
if you direct the file tree to the /boot/EFI directory, you can boot once only directly from the grubx64.efi file. usual grub2 menu is displayed when you press save and exit.
you are also able to add that file to the UEFI internal boot device menu and shift it to 1st place for permanent booting.
if the system is rebooted now after save and exit, the usual grub2 menu is displayed every boot.

Thanks for the clarifications.

See also bug 26721 (already sorted) of which this one might be a duplicate. Hence assigning this similarly.
