Description of problem: When an application is launched with this applet , using "Use custom command" method, the whole plasma desktop is locked. Even the clock isn't refreshed!!!!! when another plasmoid is clicked, nothing happens, until the first app is closed, then all the clicks/actions fire at the same time... Solution is easy : add "&" at the end of the line. But i think it should be the default behavior of the applet because it's very tricky, not that easy to find...and very annoying. Steps to Reproduce: 1. add plasma-launchbutton on kde desktop 2. add some program command in "Use custom command" field, without "&" at the end. 3. launch program by clicking launchbutton

Wow, i had no idea someone was actually using my applet :-), thanks! I have noticed this issue, but more importantly, this also happens with the filedialog, and i think the issue lies in there... i would like someone knowing more of KDE developement to help me with this though... I'll ask around, though this can take a while to be fixed :-S.
Set version to cauldron: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Triage_guide#Enhancement_requests

ugh, i really need to get this fixed... i'll try to find someone more knowledgable with KDE development than myself to help...
Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

Still valid with Mageia 2. Idea is cool, but needs a lot of work to gain usability (dbus, file selection, app management).
it's on my todo list. - file selection is there. - what do you mean by app management - dbus is still only half working but it's not really one of my priorities
I meant : - there's no possibility to open the kde file selector. Useful to launch a script or program in ~/. - you can't choose an app from the kde menu, as with quicklaunch applet. - handy dbus selector is what i'm looking for :(
> - there's no possibility to open the kde file selector. Useful to launch a > script or program in ~/. you mean a file selector for scripts in the command part? hmm, i guess it could be nice to have... not that important imho. an App selection, that might be nice, maybe i should look at how other stuff does it. the dbus selector is partly there (although i think i disabled it, since it didn't work well yet) but i think app would be more important than dbus selector.
Removed Needinfo because the requested info is given. Roelof

thus: - change root window so that when app is running and blocking the applet, it doesn't block plasma completely (hopefully) - fix dbus selector - look into an app selector as other apps do it. - possibly a browse button next to custom command - fix right and bottom border
Still valid?

well... i kinda am hoping to reimplement this in QML for KF5 ...
@AL13N This bug is terribly old, can you say whether it still applies or can be closed OLD? I am unaware of the applet in question to try it with M6/7.

MGA 5 was the last release which shipped plasma-applet-launchbutton. Closing OLD.
