Installed all but source package.
kernel-linus-5.6.14-1.mga7-1-1.mga7.x86_64

Intel Core i7-4790
NVIDIA GM204 [GeForce GTX 970] driver: nvidia v: 430.64
Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
  driver: r8169

Reboot took a long time - message about change of display driver. OK initiated a reboot and a rebuild of nvidia-current. Logged in to Mate desktop under nouveau driver.
$ sudo dkms status | grep nvidia
nvidia-current, 430.64-8.mga7.nonfree, 5.5.15-desktop-3.mga7, x86_64: installed
nvidia-current, 430.64-8.mga7.nonfree, 5.6.14-desktop-2.mga7, x86_64: installed
nvidia-current, 430.64-8.mga7.nonfree, 5.6.8-desktop-1.mga7, x86_64: installed
nvidia-current, 430.64-8.mga7.nonfree, 5.6.6-desktop-1.mga7, x86_64: installed

Logged out to switch to KDE.

Desktop applications working fine. All stress tests completed. Launched a Mageia 7 client in virtualbox. It all looks good - leaving it running as production desktop for a while.

Continuation from comment 1.

Switched back to Mate for the QA meeting. Had trouble logging out of Plasma - three attempts - no idea what was wrong.
Comment 3 Len Lawrence 2020-05-24 01:53:04 CEST
Switched back to the desktop kernel after several days of successful production with the linus kernel. So now nvidia is back.
