mga7, x86_64 MSI model: Z97-G43 (MS-7816) Intel Core i7-4790 Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet driver: r8169 NVIDIA GM204 [GeForce GTX 970] driver: nvidia v: 430.64 During installation the radeon-firmware package was thrown out. On reboot there was no sign of linus in the grub menu. Logged in and ran drakboot and restarted. OK that time. The switch to the nouveau driver entailed another reboot but that ran smoothly. Mate working normally albeit slowly as far as graphics were concerned but not noticeable for workspace switching. Leaving this up for a while.
