Description Elliot L 2020-04-07 17:25:15 CEST
I made a package request (26432) a few days ago for the Nvidia 435/440 drivers in Mageia. However, the reason for their absence was due to Mageia lacking libglvnd. I have recently packaged this library for Mageia (based off of the version in Fedora 32) and I would like to see if it could be included in Cauldren and possibly even Mageia 7.

Bug 26432 (for the link!).
Thank you for the suggestion.

Assigning this package request to all packagers collectively. On a voluntary basis, one of them might, if there are no license or other legal issues, want to integrate it to the distribution and maintain it for bug and security fixes.

You Elliot might also want to join the packager team to maintain this piece of software: see https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Becoming_a_Mageia_Packager
Since you know about SPEC files, patches etc, please consider this seriously. We are always in need of more manpower.

It's usually better to get a package with one or more libraries from OpenMandriva. Their spec repository seems to be at https://github.com/OpenMandrivaAssociation. So the libglvnd one was at https://github.com/OpenMandrivaAssociation/libglvnd.

The Fedora spec doesn't follow the Mageia packaging guidelines. The OpenMandriva (from a quick check) only needed a tiny change (Release: %mkrel 1).

You can see the current Mageia spec at http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauldron/libglvnd/current/.

To see which distributions already have a package I often use https://pkgs.org/.

I've submitted libglvnd to Cauldron.

Okay, hope this helped in some way!

It caused me to pay attention to the bug. It's pretty unusual to have someone already have a spec file for it. Also, it feels like a shared effort, that's quite nicer.

Unfortunately I think I'm not good at training, I do hope you'll help more in some way (e.g. packager).
