Description of problem: In windows there is EndNote and other software that works with Word to handle citations and bibliographies in papers automagically. It (citations/references) are absolute necessity if one is a scientist or researcher seeking to publish in professional journals. I have used Bibus extensively in Mandriva b4 switching to Mageia. Bibus is an add-on rpm and not part of Openoffice. It works with Openoffice via pyuno. As Mageia uses Libreoffice, the Bibus package would likely need to me slightly modified so it will work with both Openoffice and Libreoffice. PLEASE add this package. I cannot do any professional writing in Mageia (or any other distro) without it. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

I notice Mdv has this, so this is a missing package that should be put into updates, changing priority back to normal

Setting version to cauldron to improve the chance that someone will package it. When it is in cauldron, it'll be in the next stable release.

Hi, I support the request of Bibus as it is a very useful thing. For those who need it - you may try Referencer instead (from Mageia 1 repos) - it is for Gnome, and still can do the job.

BTW, the Mandriva 2010.1 package with Bibus 1.5.1 seems to work fine on my Mageia 1 x86_64. In menus it still has an "OpenOffice" label, but it works with LibreOffice 3.4. When installed, it complained about bad signature, but I just ignored it.

Would still be nice to have bibus on Mageia Have updated the request for Mageia 6

(In reply to w unruh from comment #5) > Would still be nice to have bibus on Mageia Have updated the request for > Mageia 6 Did we ever tell you that it is possible to become a Mageia packager, and then (import and) maintain only one package? Anyway, assigning this requests to all packagers collectively. (Removing Mdv from the whiteboard, because it is no longer relevant: we only supported upgrading from Mdv2010.x to Mga1)

I tried to package this once. But it is a dead project since 2013 and it doesn't work with libreoffice 4 and later. So, it is a won't fix fro me

I wasn't aware, but indeed http://sourceforge.net/p/bibus-biblio/bugs/308/ and https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/30914/getting-bibus-software-working-with-libreoffice-41/ I understand Bibus should be ported to python 3, but no one upstream seems to be working on it. Closing as WONTFIX :-( Feel free to reopen if upstream magically revives and fixes their bug 308

a) Bibus does not seem to work with Libreoffice 4 I agree. b) However Bibus does still work. At first I used the ancient version (1.5.1-3?) from Mandriva 2011 on Mageia 5. However it has some annoying bugs. I then tried Bibus 1.5.1-14 from Fedora fc23 and it runs (with python 3 on MGA5) It still has the openoffice choice greyed out, but I have just done a very cursory test with it. Will try it in more detail soon. But it is not a lost cause. One can always cut and paste from the bibus output into Libreoffice even if it is not automatic. It seems that giving up may be a bit premature, so I am reopening. If you all really consider it a lost cause, I guess it can be reclosed.

Hi The major problem with Bibus is that the developer has disappeared and there have been no updates in over 30 months. I did modify the source to use python3 and it does run as a stand alone programme. However the connection to libreoffice > 4.0 is unlikely to happen as libreoffice has made significant changes and Bibus cannot connect any more. If you check the link mentioned in comment #8 (http://sourceforge.net/p/bibus-biblio/bugs/308/) the developer was asked directly about the issues but there was no response. So essentially we at Mageia cannot do anything about Bibus compatibility and interactions with other software so I will re-close this bug report. You would best contact the Bibus forum an hope some else takes over the project. Nic
