This is generically simply not true. Using up-to-date Plasma, plugging in a USB external disc does indeed pop up a Device Notifier pane showing the disc and offering various possible actions/applications to open it with. [I could not get a screenshot of that, too fleeting].

It also adds a little icon in Systray, left-clicking which re-shows the original notification; right-clicking which offers Device Notifier options. Do you need to fiddle those?

Is your system an upgrade from Mageia 6 to 7?

It has happened before, but resolved itself after an upgrade.
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9315

The cause for some sticks not being recognized was never identified, and the
drive that was not being recognized in Mageia 3 has been ok since Mageia 5.

Comment 3 Stephen Usher 2020-02-19 13:29:18 CET
It should be noted that this worked fine in all previous releases of Mageia on this system. It's purely a regression in Mageia 7.
Comment 4 Stephen Usher 2020-02-25 15:33:08 CET
The latest kernel update seems to have fixed this.
Comment 5 Dave Hodgins 2020-03-11 07:29:34 CET
Closing the report. It can be reopened if necessary.
