Description of problem: An unknown widget on my Plasma desktop won't go away. I am running Mageia 7 but it has been here since Mageia 5 and then 6 (I upgraded with mgaapplet each time). The widget is tiny, I can barely grab it and move it around the screen. See the attached screenshots. I looked in the widget management dialog, I read many config files in the .kde*, .config, .cache folders of my homedir, this widget is nowhere to be found. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): plasma-desktop-5.15.4-1.mga7 How reproducible: Always there, sitting on my Plasma desktop :). I don't know what I did before, the day it appeared.

It would be worth asking about this on the French forum, in case somebody else has seen this. Thank you for the screenshots; the line would not be noticed without your note "is the line on the white zone". Is not this entire white square the widget? When you say it "can be moved around the screen", does this mean anywhere on the taskbar, or the desktop? Can you please attach a screenshot of the entire desktop, to put the widget in context (it looks to be on the RH side of the bottom taskbar, in Systray). Also, can you say what happens when you left and right-click it? Do you not get a menu? The second screenshot suggests a 'move' option from a context (RH click) menu.

You are asking the right questions ;) ! - The small horizontal line IS the faulty widget - When I can grab it (it's only 1px high), I can move it around the _full_ screen. So I move it to a place where it won't bother me too much. - It is on top of everything else. I even see it when I am watching a video fullscreen. - Both my Mageia computers had this problem a couple of years ago, while being totally independent. I installed my job computer from scratch to Mageia 7, so it does not have it anymore. But the home computer has been upgraded so it still displays the widget. - I tried repeatedly to left-click, right-click it, I never got any sort of response; so there is no way I can configure/resize/delete it. - From the widget list I always have been unable to assess which type of widget it is an instance of. - The "move" option is only a result of "mouseover" the widget, not a click contextual menu. I cannot provide a fullscreen screenshot for now. It may not be useful anyway ;) Is there a shell command to list all of plasma's active widgets and control them ?
Created attachment 11472 [details] widget menu I use the "Desktop" layout in Plasma and widget manipulation entails: 1) Right-click desktop and unlock widgets. 2) Left-click the widget and hold until a menu bar appears alongside, as shown in the screenshot. 3) Drag to move, use the top menu entry to resize, the bottom menu entry to delete, all that I've ever done with this. 4) Your description of hover to get a "move" option might be a matter of using the "Folder view" layout? I haven't seen such a function of Plasma, not in my recent memories of "Plasma". 5) If you are using "Folder view", it might be "fun" to switch to "Desktop" layout and see if there is a difference. (Widgets might go away and need to be re-added, so caveat emptor).

(In reply to Rolf Pedersen from comment #5) Thanks for your help and ideas :) > 1) Right-click desktop and unlock widgets. > 2) Left-click the widget and hold until a menu bar appears alongside, as > shown in the screenshot. > 3) Drag to move, use the top menu entry to resize, the bottom menu entry to > delete, all that I've ever done with this. It works fine on regular widgets, but not with this one. I still get the "move" cross. > 4) Your description of hover to get a "move" option might be a matter of > using the "Folder view" layout? Thank you Nicolas for your extra information; and Rolf for your observations. A veritable mystery. From comment 4: > Both my Mageia computers had this problem a couple of years ago, while > being totally independent. This indicates that you had the problem with Mageia 6, and it has been preserved by the upgrade to M7; but it is not apparent in M7 itself; good. Assigning this to the KDE/Plasma team; CC'ing DavidG as maintainer for some related packages. I cannot see that this is a Systray issue, more Plasma desktop.

If this is still the case, you should remove all Plasma config stuff in your user's home directory to reset to default configuration. These files usually start with "plasma" in their name and they are in ~/.config/ ~/.kde/ and ~/.local/share/ folders. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade to the latest update of their distribution, and if this issue turns out to still be reproducible in the latest update, please reopen this bug with additional information. Closing as OLD.
