Description of problem: Wif adapter does not connect Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mageia 7 How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Priority: Normal => High
I have used pc linux os and all of the wifi adapters work. There is a configuration problem with mageia 7 that is preventing all of the 3 wifi usb adpters from working.
Sorry for the trouble you are having. It seems you have raised similar bugs before. Here, please say exactly what WiFi adaptors are not working. ------------------------------------------------------------ There are other 'wifi not working' bugs, many of which talk of a reversion from Mageia 6 or since a kernel update. The most relevant look to be: Bug 25886, Bug 25036, Bug 24605, Bug 25448, Bug 24033, Bug 22354. Assigning to the kernel/drivers group; please ask Ian what other info you want.

The wifi adapters I tried to use in Mageia 7 are: Aukey WIFI AC1200 USB 3 ADAPTER (wf-r6) Dual Band Wireless USB-Adapter 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz Wireless-Networks. a/b/g/n/ac. Billion BiPAC 3010A USB 3 Wireless Adapter WiFi Dongle AC Dual Band 2.4GHz + 5GHz 867Mbps + 300Mbps ESYNIC 802.11 b/g/n 300 Mbps WIRELESS USB ADAPTER I tried various installations for Mageia 7 using cd and usb media, including updating the system after first boot. I manually configured the IP address and gateway instead of using the automatic IP(Boot/DHCP) configuration that failed full stop. The manual configuration initially tried to connect briefly for about six seconds then reverted back to no connection. It looks like it initially found the access point but was unable to find the IP address, and then the the error message came up saying connection failed. I recently tried PCclinuxOS 2019.12 and installed the dkms driver from their repositories and then the WIFI adapters worked. I can only suggest the drivers in that distribution are updated or the configuration for the drivers in Mageia 7 are incorrect. The Drivers that worked in PClinuxOS 2019.12 that worked were: dkms package for realtek 8812/14/21au driver Realtek 88xxAU driver v5.6.4.2 with monitor mode and frame injection.

Hi ran into trouble with my wifi driver updates that came in under RTL8723BE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter here is the lsmod of the working version: # lsmod | grep real snd_hda_codec_realtek 126976 1 snd_hda_codec_generic 90112 1 snd_hda_codec_realtek ledtrig_audio 16384 2 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_codec 155648 4 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_core 102400 5 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_codec_realtek realtek 20480 0 libphy 90112 3 r8169,realtek snd 102400 20 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hwdep,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_timer,snd_pcm When I installed the 20191220 updates for realtek update: rtlwifi-firmware-20191220.1 the wifi quits working. --- Right now I have that update on the blacklist to prevent the install, but there is something definitely wrong with that build.

I have installed the kernel 5.4.8-1 from updates_testing and out of the three wifi usb adapters I have tested only two of them now work. The two that now work are as follows: 1) Aukey WIFI AC1200 USB 3 ADAPTER (wf-r6) Dual Band Wireless USB-Adapter 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz Wireless-Networks. a/b/g/n/ac. 2) Billion BiPAC 3010A USB 3 Wireless Adapter WiFi Dongle AC Dual Band 2.4GHz + 5GHz 867Mbps + 300Mbps
The Adapter that does not appear to work is the ESYNIC 802.11 b/g/n 300 Mbps WIRELESS USB ADAPTER, (rtl 8191s Wlan Adapter) that uses the r8712u driver module in Mageia 7. I have tried to research if there is a common problem with this Adapter and why it fails to work properly and in my case not at all.I have now discovered other people have reported the same issue. It would appear there is a kernel problem with the r8712u driver which is a staging driver and it will need to be replaced with the updated r92u driver. I hope this information helps.
I would like to amend and clarify the updated driver for the r8712u is in fact the r92su driver.
An update for this issue has been pushed to the Mageia Updates repository. https://advisories.mageia.org/MGASA-2020-0036.html
