Installed nvidia-current on this setup:
CPU: 10-Core: Intel Core i9-7900X type: MT MCP speed: 1200 MHz
NVIDIA GP102 [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti] driver: nvidia v: 430.50

It failed to "take". After reboot the nouveau driver was running.
Taking more notice of the message which comes up noted that it advised the insertion of nokmsboot in the kernel boot parameters. When did that go missing?
It proved very difficult to get to a point where the line could be edited because so many attempts were frustrated by the need to cold boot every time.
Added "nokmsboot" and after that there was no trouble.

How do I edit initrd to insert the nokmsboot parameter permanently?

Or should I be looking at /boot/grub2?
Comment 3 Len Lawrence 2019-11-14 22:38:47 CET
grub.cfg:

linuxefi /boot/vmlinuz-5.3.7-desktop-3.mga7 root=UUID=dc2ec031-3cdb-4bf9-9636-91ba51db08dd ro splash quiet noiswmd nokmsboot resume=UUID=d8dc2b10-aa2f-4ce3-9950-db5442095f5f audit=0 vga=791

nokmsboot is already there. ?
Comment 4 Len Lawrence 2019-11-14 22:43:22 CET
But:
linuxefi /boot/vmlinuz-5.3.11-desktop-1.mga7 root=UUID=dc2ec031-3cdb-4bf9-9636-91ba51db08dd ro failsafe

This is out of my league.

"drakboot --boot" to the rescue. Trying that just now.
Comment 6 Len Lawrence 2019-11-14 23:19:26 CET
shutdown now, switch on, reboot. nvidia comes up OK.
Comment 7 Len Lawrence 2019-11-14 23:20:01 CET
And glmark2 works.
Comment 8 Len Lawrence 2019-11-15 02:16:56 CET
Moved to another partition on the core i9 machine (comment 1). Installed the nvidia packages but had to run through the reboot loop three times to get the driver running and that included a drakx11 session and the use of 'drakboot --boot'. Driver 430.64 up and running.

Mageia7, x86_64

Nvidia GeForce GTX970
nvidia 430.64 running fine. Desktop functions, glmark2 does not, celestia and stellarium are fine.

Ran teapot. Used nvidia-settings to switch sync to VBlank on and off. 30 fps when on and 1763~ fps when off.

OK for this hardware.
