1. Go to System settings.
2. Enable mouse gestures.
3. Select mouse button.

Unable to test this, beaten by Plasma. So assigning on trust to the KDE team.

Tried this on my 64-bit Plasma install. Clicked on the "Gestures" box in "Custom Shortcuts/Settings" to activate them, then "apply." Nothing happened. Mouse functions still normal. Logged out and back in - no change.

To be fair, I also do not know how to invoke mouse gestures, and I saw nothing obvious of them either, so it may be that I simply did not activate the gestures properly.

I use mouse gestures to switch between activities, desktops, lock screen, etc.:

Thanks for the reference above; it is at least up-to-date.
I was going to ask *exactly* how you managed to enable mouse gestures in the first place; and exactly for what & how. Thomas found a reference:
 https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/61xqvg/do_plasma_gestures_work_for_you/
which is not encouraging. That complainant seemed to have the same bafflement as I did, and the same problem as this bug. This quotation may be relevant:

"If you are on X11, gestures should work properly starting from Plasma 5.6.1. I have heard about one issue in the past where the used mouse button will not be usable for anything else - this probably is caused by the distribution (accidentally) compiling KHotkeys without support for XTest."

His trial comment 2 apparently got there. On my system, System Settings - Workspace/Shortcuts - Custom Shortcuts does *not* show the vital 'Gestures' sub-menu item, just KMenuEdit, Konqueror Gestures, Screenshots; all ticked (but not the 'start input actions daemon on startup'). Clicking the Settings button at the bottom did nothing.

Perhaps you might publish your own detailed experience, the 'why' and the 'how', to enlighten others on what is clearly a mystery.

Unfortunately, I use machine translation to communicate in English. For me, complex text looks a bit confusing...

I can say that the "start input actions daemon on startup" checkbox is also not fixed for me. After re-entering the system settings, it remains off. But mouse gestures work. Just the button ceases to perform basic functions.

I showed the settings in the screenshots.

Apparently, I have to buy a mouse with more than 3 buttons.

Thanks you!

P.S. I re-read it again ... If we talk about “why?” ...

I will add to the above that mouse gestures are very convenient when using full-screen applications on Desktops.

And Activities, for example, are used to reduce the brightness of the screen and turn off the sound using the bash-command (amixer -D pulse sset Master (un)mute) when in that Activity there are bright and loud full-screen applications which connected via RDP.

I recently switched from Mageia 5 immediately to 7. At 5, unfortunately, the function to stop (pause) the Activity worked very unclear. In Mageia 7 not yet tested.

Thanks again!
