Thank you for the notification, but...
Do you mean 'calibre'? We need to be sure before assigning this bug. We do not seem to have a 'callibre' package.

Thaks for the correction.

Is the calibre package.
Comment 3 Lewis Smith 2019-10-11 19:38:51 CEST
Thank you Jose for the confirmation

@Stig : I do not know whether this would pass as a simple update for M7; or if you do decide to do it, it may have to be a backport. I imagine it would be OK for Cauldron. It is up to you, I think.

I think there's still a long way to go for the release of Mageia 8.

This new release come with important improvements after two years of development for wait to Mageia 8.
Comment 5 David Walser 2019-10-21 23:25:47 CEST
We don't just update packages in stable Mageia releases just because they're "newer" and "better." That's largely because of 1) risk of regression and 2) lack of manpower. We have policies for what can be updated and why. We have updated it a couple of times before to fix security issues, so that could be one possible justification for updating it, but otherwise, backports would be the appropriate way to provide this update.

Calibre 4 moved Calibre from using the no longer maintained Qt WebKit to the maintained Qt WebEngine.

Now that's a justification for updating it. That will avoid a lot of security issues in webkit.

Hi,

The actual version in cauldron does not launch.
It is missing zeroconf module:
https://pypi.org/project/zeroconf/

once this installed it works well

For backporting to Mageia7, you need to backport:
python3-html5-parser
python3-mechanize

I rebuilded calibre on Mageia 7 and installed it, all works.

Hi,
Thanks for requesting a backport to Mageia 7 for packages updated in Cauldron.

According to our current backports policy:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Backports_policy

- Package maintainers are under no obligation to provide backports for the packages they maintain (whereas a maintainer should provide updates to the stable releases for packages he/she maintains).
- Another packager can step in and provide backports provided he contacts maintainer about this. He must then keep the maintainer informed when working on it.
- The maintainer can refuse that some packages be backported. If hard conflicts arise (eg. the maintainer vs all other packagers), we can refer to the council.
- Packager (maintainer or not) who will submit backport will also have to provide security and bug updates if necessary.

Packager/Maintainer: If you are working on this backport request, please change status to "Assigned". Feel free to Close this if you think it is against current Backports policy.

Reporter: Your request is under investigations.
In the meantime, we suggest look for Appimage or Flatpak version of this.

Now, Calibre 5.0 is out.
It has to be included in cauldron because it is now in Python 3.

Thanks a lot !
Comment 13 Stig-Ørjan Smelror 2020-10-16 15:29:40 CEST
Hi.

Would love to include Calibre 5.3.0 in Cauldron. It does, however, require an updated python-sip which I am unable to update due to lack of experience.

Would really love some help with updating python-sip to version 5.4.x so that Calibre can also be updated before MGA8 is released.

Cheers,
Stig

I'm unable to help you :-(
I'm just an user and not a developper. I hope you will find some help among the fabulous devs that make Mageia one of the most fabulous distro ;-)

Hi,

This remain unresolved. We are about to see the release of Mageia 8, so we should consider that this bug will don't be solved for the release of Mageia 8?

Greetings!!
Comment 16 Stig-Ørjan Smelror 2021-02-16 09:54:28 CET
I willstart working on Calibre 5.x for Cauldron/Mageia 9.

There has been some issues with libraries that I've been unable to fix and Mageia 8 is just about to be released.

Comment 18 Jose Manuel López 2021-05-14 12:08:09 CEST
Any news here?? Calibre is in 5.17 version now.
Comment 19 Jose Manuel López 2023-09-22 17:17:47 CEST
Hi,

We can close this bug since caliber will no longer be updated in Mageia 8 and is already updated in Mageia 9 to a higher version than the bug.

Greetings!
