CPU:       Quad core Intel Core i7-4790 (-HT-MCP-)

Installed the microcode.  It ran dracut -f during installation which provided a new initrd.
$ rpm -qa | grep microcode
microcode-0.20190918-1.mga6.nonfree

Rebooted.
$ dmesg | grep microcode
[    0.000000] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0x27, date = 2019-02-26
[    0.422204] microcode: sig=0x306c3, pf=0x2, revision=0x27
[    0.422556] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2.
