Description nikos papadopoulos 2019-09-09 19:20:38 CEST
Description of problem:
IceApe, Midori, and Falkon (former qupzilla), browsers don't play embedded mp4 videos, in webpages.

For IceApe, I 've tried with safe-mode, in my standard profile.
I 've also tried with a new profile.
Same negative results.

IceApe and Falcon play webm (vp8 and vp9) videos.

Midori seems to have some issues with webm (vp8 and vp9) videos.

I have enabled tainted repositories.

It's a fresh Mageia 7.1 installation (not an upgrade),
with all the updates.

My home directory is old, though.

The needed Gstreamer plugins seam installed.
Although I see only gstreamer1.0 versions, and no gstreamer0.10 version
(if that matters).

You can do some checking in http://html5test.com/ webpage.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Mageia 7.1 64bit
IceApe version 2.49.4 , Build identifier: 20190212082751

There's no registered maintainer for IceApe, CC'ing cjw and daviddavid, who submitted IceApe recently.

CC'ing kde team for Falkon

CC'ing vaci0 for Midori

@ all those packagers:

Please tell whether this bug report needs to be cloned twice, so that IceApe, Midori and Falkon have a separate report for each of them.

AFAIK H.264 (aka MPEG4 AVC) playback support is only available in libavcodec from ffmpeg, in the 'tainted' repository. Both on mga7 and in cauldron iceape uses this library directly, I do not see it using gstreamer.

I do not really see how you could not have libavcodec installed, but I guess you should check anyway. Maybe the easiest way to install this library is to install its gstreamer plugin package gstreamer1.0-libav.

   lib64avcodec
Rpmdrake showed lib64avcodec58 tainted installed...
   lib64avcodec58 4.1.4 1.mga7.tainted x86_64

(
But the terminal shows...
   rpm -qif /usr/lib64/libavcodec.so.58
   ...
   Source RPM : ffmpeg-4.1.4-1.mga7.tainted.src.rpm
   ...

Is that normal?
)

---

   gstreamer1.0-libav
is installed...
   rpm -qif /usr/lib64/gstreamer-1.0/libgstlibav.so
   ...
   Source RPM : gstreamer1.0-libav-1.16.0-1.mga7.src.rpm
   ...

There is no tainted version as an option.

---

Can someone confirm this bug, or is it just my system?

---

( I tried reinstalling IceApe,
and , also, installing " libavcodec58-4.1.4-1.mga7.tainted.i586 ".
The bug is still there.)

For iceape, I think the problem is that lib(64)avcodec58 is not supported by iceape, you need lib(64)avcodec57 (or 56, 55, 54, 53). I have lib64avcodec57 installed both in cauldron and in mga7, that's why it works for me.
Comment 6 nikos papadopoulos 2019-09-24 19:14:25 CEST
> lib(64)avcodec58 is not supported by iceape,
> you need lib(64)avcodec57 (or 56, 55, 54, 53)

I tried downgrading lib(64)avcodec, to test that,
but it becomes complicated.
Since my only installation of Mageia 7 is my "working" computer,
I don't want to start messing with it.
