Description of problem: monitor-edid drops a number of items into s/bin. It would be helpful if they included some manpages or a limited usage guide. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):3.2 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Look for manpages/usage guide on deployed 'binaries' usr/sbin/monitor-probe-using-X usr/sbin/monitor-probe usr/sbin/monitor-edid usr/bin/monitor-parse-edid
The package provides 6 binaries: /usr/bin/monitor-parse-edid /usr/sbin/monitor-edid /usr/sbin/monitor-get-edid /usr/sbin/monitor-get-edid-using-vbe /usr/sbin/monitor-probe /usr/sbin/monitor-probe-using-X none of which have man pages. This is not unusual for obscure software. From the package info: "Monitor-edid is a tool for probing and parsing Extended display identification data (EDID) from monitors. For more information about EDID, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EDID" /usr/share/doc/monitor-edid/NEWS | README give no helpful information. Trying all the commands with no parameters showed mostly nothing useful; with an arbitrary -h parameter (help!) showed a usage line, with all the parameters cryptic. I have seen this before with obtuse software, it is not just this package. You need to be expert in its field to be able to use it. monitor-edid has no maintainer, so assigning globally; CC'ing 2 packagers who have at least seen this thing before. Realistically, any documentation is unlikely.
