Description Sébastien Morin 2019-07-22 21:15:01 CEST
Description of problem:
Afterstep is unusable with Mageia 7

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
  afterstep-2.2.12-12.mga7.x86_64

How reproducible:
  always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Mga 7 from Mageia-7.1-x86_64.iso
When asked for desktop selection, choose Custom.
In the next screen, untick Plasma and tick Other Graphical Desktop.
This will install Mageia with IceWM.

2. Login to IceWM and install afterstep.
     asclock-2.0.12-8.mga7.x86_64
and lib64afterstep0-2.2.12-12.mga7.x86_64
will be installed as dependencies.

3. Try to login to Afterstep and see that it is impossible: Afterstep can neither be chosen over IceWM in LightDM, nor be selected in the auto-connect section in MCC.

Assigning this globally as I can find no related packager.

/usr/share/xsessions/AfterStep.desktop has 'NoDisplay=true' so it's not shown in lightdm.

Pushed afterstep-2.2.12-12.1.mga7 without NoDisplay key to core/updates_testing. Please test.

This is still not working: Afterstep is indeed available in LightDM (but NOT in MCC auto-connect), but the WM crashes right after it is running and showing the wallpaper. And I am back to LightDM half a second later.

Please open a separate bug for crash.

Thx, it would be also nice to have own bug for afterstep missing from drakautologin in MCC.

Actually, I've fixed the issue. Looks like the xsession .desktop file must start with [Desktop Entry] to be visible in drakautologin.

Please test afterstep-2.2.12-12.3.mga7 from core/udpates_testing. It also contains the fixes for bug 25176.
Comment 8 Sébastien Morin 2019-07-27 09:48:57 CEST
Ok, I installed afterstep-2.2.12-12.3.mga7 and the entry "Afterstep" is now available in drakautologin.

It is also available in the LightDM menu and seems to be working correctly.

Ready for QA approval.

mga7, x86_64

Before updating I had no end of trouble trying to find out how to start afterstep. Logged in to IceWM and tried afterstep from the cli; straight back to the LightDM login page. Trawled the Mageia wikis for inspiration - nothing there.

Installed the updates and followed the same route.
Rebooted and then Afterstep appeared in the menu. Selected that and logged in successfully and spent some time trying it out. It works fine.

OK for 64-bits. (The Bugzilla interface is misbehaving - very difficult to simply type in a choice on the whiteboard - needs to be fixed)
