Description Rod Goslin 2019-07-14 12:17:10 CEST
Description of problem:
On a new install, konqueror can be started, but a second instance fails to start. When konqueror is closed, either by closing the active window, or quitting the program under the 'File' option. No new instance of konqueror can be started. A search using the command ps -ax indicates that the original process is still running. Killing this process will allow konqueror to be started. I have raised this issue on the mageia forum. To date there has only been one reply, which finds the same fault

The fix is to start konqueror go to setting/performance
uncheck "Always try to have one preloaded instance"

press OK and konqueror will correctly close and can be restarted.

Indeed, Konqueror cannot normally be re-started.
This is an old known upstream problem, but I cannot find the previous bug of which this is essentially a duplicate, so closing it fixed.
Konqueror has been somewhat sidelined upstream for a long time since Dolphin for file manager, and the new Falkon browser replacement which you can install.

Thank you Dennis for the 'fix', which works.

So the next person to stumble upon that issue will open another bug about this - not even an Errata entry, simply closing it ?

That's very strange. I've been using Konqueror for many years now, not as a browser, since there are better about. But, as a file manager, I've not met a better, anywhere, at any time. In all that time I have never come across this problem. So, where is the "old known upstream problem"?
I agree that Konqueror has "been sidelined" for some time, largely, it seems, by removing useful attributes, like the sidebar. I've used Dolphin, and find it not a patch on Konqueror, in it's installed state. To my mind, it's the old, old system of continually "improving" something that works, until it no longer does.

I stand corrected. Ah, I found the earlier bug, my own! Still open, so changing the status of this one to Duplicate:
 https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23969
Note that I raised this testing Mageia 7, so perhaps it is not so old as I thought. Although I did confirm it for Mageia 6 as well.

See comments 9-11 in the other bug.

Agree. The last to show real file sizes.

The actual remedy is more precisely defined in:
