Details

Description Herman Viaene 2019-07-13 14:16:15 CEST
Description of problem:
Since final M7.0 updates requiring to restart the laptop (kernel or systemd) or the installation of M7.1, the subsequent reboot fails with "bootmgr missing"

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Happened in cases described on laptop IBM Thinkpad R50e - Pentium M.
Note that starting the installation USB and choosing "Rescue system - Install bootloader" does not cure the problem.
I found the procedure from Gparted - Help to be effective:
[live@localhost ~]$ mkdir /tmp/mag
[live@localhost ~]$ cd /tmp/mag
.......
[root@localhost ~]# mount /dev/sda1 /tmp/mag
[root@localhost ~]# mount --bind /dev /tmp/mag/dev
[root@localhost ~]# mount --bind /sys /tmp/mag/sys
[root@localhost ~]# mount --bind /proc /tmp/mag/proc
[root@localhost ~]# chroot /tmp/mag/
[root@localhost /]# grub2-install /dev/sda
Installeren voor i386-pc-platform.
Installatie is afgerond. Er werden geen fouten gerapporteerd.
[root@localhost /]# exit
exit

If I read the messages of the "Rescue system - Install bootloader" correctly, this does almost the same, except the mounting of /proc.

Attaching installation report.

Something wrong there Herman - that report.bug.xz shows a Mageia 6 install.

Must have mounted the wrong partition. Will replace it.
Comment 4 Herman Viaene 2019-07-14 10:07:02 CEST
The whole drakx folder under root is missing. I'll redo the M7.1 installation.
Comment 5 Herman Viaene 2019-07-14 10:50:17 CEST
Reinstalled M7.1 completely on same partition as I always used for M7 testing, and getting same at reboot "bootmgr is missing".
I will reinstall M6 on the same disk but on its own partition and see what that gives.

I understand this happened on the ThinkPad R50e, that just died?

(Yeah, that was sad news for me, too)

If not:

Can you please use a working partition or a Live medium to fetch
  /root/drakx/report.bug.xz from that install ?

If so, then this report should probably be closed, because the laptop dying likely caused it.

You're right Marja, it was all a prelude to the demise of the laptop.
I owe you my thanks for the use of it as long as it lasted.
