This might be https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1516101 You can test by starting FF like this: LC_ALL=C firefox --new-instance -ProfileManager If you don't see the same error, then it is indeed the same issue and then it was fixed (at least for Firefox) with https://hg.mozilla.org/projects/cedar/rev/f4fc0e5c9d4a8fcc6e93cff2cde0362ac04b8016

I hope that solves it for thunderbird, too. Assigning to all packagers collectively, since there is no registered maintainer for Firefox and the registered maintainer of Thunderbird hasn't touched TB since a year ago. Also CC'ing ns80, who touched those packages most often recently.
