Description Egon Ashrafinia 2011-08-23 23:06:29 CEST
Hello Guys.

Could you please update Wine to the current version ( 1.3.26 ) in Mageia 1? This will enable some features I need to play some games.

Would be glad.

Greetings

Please backport wine 1.3.30.
Isn't wine one of the programs that can be automatically packaged?

I am not a packager but if you know a way, you can share this on the mageia-dev mailing list. :)

(backport are not open, and there is no real maintainer of wine (for now). )

wine-1:1.3.34-1.mga2 is in cauldron, so Mga 2 stable will have that version (or newer)

I should have said: It is in cauldron, so we expect it to be in Mga2 stable

@ Egon
@ Dieter

We have wine-1.4.1-1.mga2.src.rpm in Mageia 2 core-updates

Are you using Mageia 2 and can this request be closed?

Hi Marja,

I assigned it to me last week because I'm working on an update request for 1.
Bad to have it unstable in 1, so soon 1.4.1 for 1.
Stay tuned.

OK, thx Damien :)

I wasn't aware wine is unstable in 1 (I used it maybe twice over the past year).

Can 1.4.1 count as bug-fix only release? That would make it valid to go in updates instead of backports.
Comment 8 Damien Lallement 2012-08-02 11:29:52 CEST
Yes the idea is to push it in updates_testing. No backport, it's a 200% bug fix release... ;-)
Stay tuned!

Advisory:
-------------
The package wine is in an unstable release in Mageia 1. This update fixes this by providing wine 1.4.1 (the latest stable available).

Packages:
-------------
wine-1.4.1-1.mga1

How to test:
-------------
- Just try to use it and check that there is no regression between core and core/updates_testing.
- If you had issue with games in unstable release, please try it now.

/!\ warning about .Net cannot be fixed in 1 (as the issue was already there in core/release, please do not take it into account for this update).

Yep, pretty much so...

See the recent (~1+ weeks ago) "wine [263611] new version 1.5.7" discussion on mageia-dev.

And here is some version matching info:

Should this update be held pending a new gecko version, or let
it go through, since the user can download the newer version
themselves?

wine-gecko must be updated too as we already ship it in /release, otherwise the upgrade will break on existing installs...

I'm still having problems on x86-64 after installing wine64,
then enabling updates testing as an update repository and
then using mgaapplet to install the updates ...

[dave@x1v ~]$ rpm -qa|grep wine
wine32-1.3.20-2.mga1
wine64-gecko-1.4-1.mga1
wine64-1.4.1-1.1.mga1
wine-gecko-1.2.0-1.mga1
[dave@x1v ~]$ wine notepad.exe
wine client error:0: version mismatch 431/423.
Your wine binary was not upgraded correctly,
or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH.
Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running?
Comment 22 claire robinson 2012-08-09 11:10:56 CEST
You probably need to enable Core 32bit Updates Testing aswell Dave.
Comment 23 Dave Hodgins 2012-08-09 21:27:48 CEST
Thanks Claire. Much better. I can now run programs under wine.

Couple of problems still. When I run "wine iexplore.exe", it's showing
the winehq page in some asian font.

In the terminal output, there are messages that are not there in the
i586 version.
Wine cannot find the ncurses library (libncurses.so.5).

I fixed that one by installing libncurses5.

Wine cannot find the FreeType font library. To enable Wine to
use TrueType fonts please install a version of FreeType greater than
or equal to 2.0.5.
http://www.freetype.org

After running under strace, to see what it was looking for, I fixed
that by installing libfreetype6, and now the winehq site is in
english. :-)

Damien, would you like to add requires on libncurses5 and libfreetype6,
or push this update, and I'll open a new bug report for the missing
requires?
Comment 24 Samuel Verschelde 2012-08-09 22:59:13 CEST
Given that the update is such a version change (from 1.3.20 to 1.4.1), it would be better to fix everything that can be fixed in the same update, isn't it?
