Description Fernando Bernardo 2019-05-14 13:33:20 CEST
As I tried to install Mageia 7 beta 3 the installer asks for keyboard layout.

Portuguese keyboards (and others) don't switch, they stay silently in us-en for all the installation.

After installing it stays the same and there is no way using Mageia tools to set the keyboard correctly. I can choose Brazilian-Portuguese for instance and the keyboard layout shows on screen. However none of the pt-pt shows the keys or works. I tried to use only Mageia tools for this with no success during or after install.
Comment 1 Marja Van Waes 2019-05-14 22:19:57 CEST
Thanks for your report.

I understand your keyboard layout is this one: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficheiro:KB_Portuguese.svg

=> Is that correct? If not, then please give a picture of your keyboard layout.

=> What exactly do you mean with:
> Portuguese keyboards (and others) don't switch, they stay silently in us-en
> for all the installation.

=> Please give examples

=> And please give the output of the following command in a terminal/konsole:

    setxkbmap -query

=> Does the Portuguese layout work well in tty2, after switching to it with
   Ctrl+Alt+F2 ?

I understand you did a traditional (non-Live) install. If so:
=> please attach

   /root/drakx/report.bug.xz

Thanks :-)

@ Fernando,

If you don't supply the information asked for in comment #1, then there is nothing at all that we can do :-(

One of our packagers with a Portuguese keyboard is willing to try to reproduce the problem, but the information that you gave when you filed this bug report, isn't enough.

Comment 3 Marja Van Waes 2019-06-01 20:46:16 CEST
Decreasing priority and severity, because we did not get the requested feedback, because no one else reported having a problem with the Portuguese keyboard and because the 7beta3 ISOs were replaced with 7rc ISOs.

So we don't know whether this is a bad issue that needs to be resolved before Mageia 7 final is released.

Anyone having a problem with one of our 7 rc ISOs and the use or detection of a Portuguese keyboard: please say so in this bug report and give step-by-step information about what you did before seeing the problem and elaborate on what the problem is. Please do also reply to the questions in comment #1

CC'ing the isobuilders in case this issue gets confirmed, to decrease the risk that 7final gets released with a severe issue for Portuguese users.

@ Fernando,

It is a pity that you never supplied the requested information.

You may have hit a bad bug that might affect many Portuguese users, but without the requested information there is nothing we can do to fix it. We don't even know enough to reproduce your issue!

@ Zézinho

I assume you've done a recent cauldron install on a Portuguese laptop without getting keyboard problems, right?

Thanks for the fast reply :-)

Closing this _report_ as invalid, not because we're sure there is no bug, but because this report doesn't contain the needed and requested information.

Yes but this does not give the tilde keys. I must unfortunately confirm this bug in a laptop I have upgraded today to MGA7 with portuguese keyboard : keyboard is ok in terminal but bad in xorg.

I wonder which file was messed in X11 configuration... anyway to has nothing to do with mageia tools. tv do you have a clue?

/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/pt may have changed between Mga6 and 7. I'll attach the Mga6 version, you could try whether that one works better.

Patch to fix pt keyboard

Now for the fix, I have found that there are "`" chars in new Colemak. Attaching a patch that fixes the bug.

Confirmed by upstream fix that is even larger:

I have submitted to updates testing xkeyboard-config-2.26-2.1.mga7 with this patch. Please test to ensure it is the fix.
Comment 17 José Jorge 2019-07-05 15:37:31 CEST
How to test simply : type

setxkbmap -layout pt

You'll get :

Error loading new keyboard description

With 2.26-2.1 you should get no error messages.

Suggested advisory :

The version 2.26 of xkeyboard-config brings a bogus european portuguese file, which prevents this keyboard layout to be loaded. This update patches to file as upstream did to fix the load error.

Only one RPM:
xkeyboard-config-2.26-2.1.mga7*rpm
