Description Franz Holzinger 2019-05-08 17:58:56 CEST
I have additionally installed the Fluendo DVD Player. When I play a DVD and switch it into the full screen mode, it turns out to put GNOME into an endless loop. I have switched the applications between Firefox and Kate editor. Suddenly the Fluendo Player application does not show up any more. The sound is still there and correct. Then it is sometimes still possible to shut the system down. In one case GNOME froze completely.

Are you sure the bug title is correct? Is it Fluendo specific?
Can you play the DVD & fullscreen with other players?
I cannot see Fluendo to install from Mageia repositories. Where did you get it? If from elsewhere, clearly we do not support it.

I have M7beta3 fully up-to-date, and am using Gnome desktop with a real video DVD. When Gnome can be persuaded to play it (which I found extremely difficult), fullscreen caused no problems. Specifically:
 VLC works fine, fullscreen included.
Mplayer: when you can get it going, fullscreen is OK.

But it is fair to note that as things stand on my system (which also has other desktops), from Gnome:
One cannot open the DVD from Files other than to Videos.
Videos starts, but did not work (it has done previously).
 Parole crashed.
Xine: I could not find the DVD in its open dialogues to play it.

The Fluendo DVD Player 1.0.12 did work fine under Mageia 1 - 6 for more than 8 years.
I did buy it from here:
https://www.ixsoft.de/
The former versions of the Fluedendo DVD Player have been shipped together with Mandrake Linux.

Will the most current successor OnePlay DVD-Player 1.1.0 be supported by Mageia 7?

Only the VLC player works for DVDs.
Mplayer immediately hangs after some seconds. It leads to a 100% activity on the harddrive. The computer gets almost unusable and nearly frozen then.

It is possible to open the DVD disc on Thunar.

/run/media/franz/GANGSTER_SQUAD/VIDEO_TS/

However this leads to strange reading activities on the DVD drive even after Thunar has been close. I mean that the DVD stops for several times as long I do not close Thunar. I hear a lot of noise because of access to the DVD drive.

I see all the files there.

OK. I am afraid this means that we will not persue the Fluendo problem. It might actually work for you again once the other DVD Gnome player problems are fixed.

Not unless already offered. (I am having MIRROR problems, so cannot check as I write). However, it should not matter given that Mageia offers so many video players (given that they work): Totem/Videos native for Gnome, VLC, Parole, Xine, Mplayer[-gui].

> Only the VLC player works for DVDs.
Agreed; this is not good. Thank you for trying. What about Videos=Totem?
Apparently M7 release candidate has just been released, so I shall install & try that with Gnome & different players. This bug might then remain with a different slant if the problems of playing video DVDs under Gnome with different players remains.

Is this one still valid?

Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021.
There will not have any further bugfix for this release.

You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible.

@reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it.

@packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead.

This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.

Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved,

Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly.

This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which support ended on June 30th 2021.

Thanks,
Marja
