Description Sébastien Morin 2019-05-01 20:34:29 CEST
Description of problem:

Mageia offers several GUI applications to deal with PDF files, but most of them are now marked as "discontinued" or haven't been updated since 2012 or so...

The current version of PDFsam is 2.2.4, which is now unsupported.
Could you please consider upgrading to the current version of the free and open source PDFsam (4.0.1) ?

PDFsam changed license since version 3 and now comes as an open source PDFsam Basic, while PDFsam Enhanced is proprietary and commercial.

PDFsam 2.2.4 that we provide is the last GPL version and is also the "Enhanced" version from back then.

Does PDFsam Basic 4.0.1 provide all features of PDFsam Enhanced 2.2.4?
Comment 3 Sébastien Morin 2019-05-03 06:39:35 CEST
I think you're right Rémi: this "basic" 4.0.1 version does not provide all the features we already have with the old 2.2.4e "enhanced" version.
Comment 4 Sébastien Morin 2019-05-10 07:53:59 CEST
It seems it is a good idea to keep the old 2.2.4 "enhanced" version.
Closing.

Resolution: (none) => WONTFIX
Status: NEW => RESOLVED

I don't see why we couldn't have both the old and ugly enhanced version and the much newer and nicer basic version.
Comment 6 Rémi Verschelde 2020-04-02 13:11:11 CEST
Because Java packaging is a huge PITA :)
If anyone wants to package PDFsam Basic, feel free to give it a try.
