Description of problem: While thing to install Mageia 7 Beta3 DVD iso on a Toshiba with Vision AMD I get the next error and it freezes there. [0.002038] do_IRQ: 1.55 no irq handler for vector Sometimes it does get to a screen that looks like the text installer but it freezes there. It is a Toshiba Satellite C855D-s5104 with latest bios update. Regards
The Bios Setup Says. CPU Type: AMD E-300 APU with Radeon HD Graphics.
1. Try the small netinstall iso for Cauldron and see if the problem is fixed since the DVD iso was released. It might just be the DVD iso that has this problem. 2. Add pci=nomsi, noaer to the boot command line. Install non-free display drivers Disable USB emulation in the BIOS 3. Try another kernel and see if that shows the same problem. I use linus-kernel every once in a while. I see this problem mentioned in Manjaro as well: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/1-55-no-irq-handler-for-vector/68228

The solution to add pci=nomsi, noaer to the GRUB boot command line seems to be working according to this page since this is a bug on the motherboard: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1234983

And still freezes at [7.371441] ACPI: Video Device [VGA] (multi-headed: yes rom: no post: no) In legacy mode works great even with USB emulation enabled but not in UEFI. I also tested adding video.allow_duplicates=1 as recomended somewhere. Regards,
Sorry I did not explained my self correctly.. it is 2.13am for me. ;-) Adding "pci=nomsi, noaer" did fix the error: [0.002038] do_IRQ: 1.55 no irq handler for vector But it now freezes at: [7.371441] ACPI: Video Device [VGA] (multi-headed: yes rom: no post: no) That's why I added "video.allow_duplicates=1" Regards
And what if you added nouveau.modeset=0 to the boot command line and then pressed F10 to boot? Any difference?
And there was some more information on QA ml https://ml.mageia.org/l/arc/qa-discuss/2019-04/msg00278.html, in reply to Martin's suggestion to >> Please try removing the "splash quiet" from the boot command line to see more >> messages. > Hello Martin, > I removed the "splash quiet" and it got stuck at: > [7.397966] ACPI: Video Device [VGA] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no) > I disabled UEFI to use it in legacy and it does pass thru that until I can > choose the language but not on UEFI. > Regards > Ezekiel

> I removed the "splash quiet" and it got stuck at: > [7.397966] ACPI: Video Device [VGA] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no) Could you take a photo of the screen at that point and attach it here. Seeing more of the messages might help. Another thing to try is to edit the boot command line and change "$linux" to "linux" and on the next line "$initrd" to "initrd". Does that make any difference? Again, remove the "splash quiet" to see the boot messages. > I disabled UEFI to use it in legacy and it does pass thru that until I can > choose the language but not on UEFI. Google found me this https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2312458 which suggests there may be a problem with UEFI boot on that machine. I understand from your answer to Ben on qa-discuss that you haven't got any other version of Linux running on it.

Hello to everyone, Sorry for the delay I tried with nouveau.modeset=0 as recommended by Kristoffer Grundström and did everything recommended on different distros with no avail. I also tried changing "$linux" to "linux" and on the next line "$initrd" to "initrd" as recommended by Martin Whitaker and also didn't work. (Sorry Martin I didn't had the chance to take the picture). It seems that the UEFI firmware on that specific Toshiba is buggy since I also had some strange video problems at boot, sometimes it just froze without any error so I ended up installing Mageia 7 with legacy. Regards, Ezequiel
OK, we can't do much about buggy BIOSs, apart from find workarounds :-( I'll close this as works-for-me, as you have found a workaround.
