Description Thomas Andrews 2019-04-22 02:37:36 CEST
Description of problem:

In the VirtualBox 6.0.series, if the user tries to use "Insert the guest additions CD image" from the gui "Device" tab to download and insert additions into a Windows guest, the operation fails at the end of the download with a "network error." I will attach a screenshot of the resulting error dialog.

If the user downloads the guest additions CD image from Oracle and "mounts" it into the virtual optical drive, it autoruns and the insertion proceeds normally.

VirtualBox 6.0.x in Mageia 6 is affected, too.

Comment 4 Thomas Andrews 2019-04-22 16:57:28 CEST
I neglected to mention that my Windows guest is an XP install that originated some time ago and has been carried through various versions of VirtualBox. Prior to Vbox 6.0.x, "insert Guest Additions" from the GUI always worked.
Comment 5 Morgan Leijström 2019-05-17 09:17:56 CEST
Still valid

Comment 6 Rolf Pedersen 2019-05-17 15:43:19 CEST
I have been experiencing this, also, with w10 and w7 guests.

[rolf@z77x4 ~]$ rpm -qa | grep virtualbox
virtualbox-6.0.6-1.mga6
virtualbox-doc-5.2.24-1.mga6
dkms-virtualbox-6.0.6-1.mga6
[rolf@z77x4 ~]$ cat /etc/mageia-release
Mageia release 6 (Official) for x86_64
[rolf@z77x4 ~]$

Looks very similar to the failure when using virtualbox GIU see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18962#c38

Comment 8 Thomas Andrews 2019-07-22 16:14:10 CEST
Still valid for virtualbox 6.0.10.

Morgan, I have not been affected by the failure to install/upgrade the extension pack, so I believe this is a separate bug.

Appears to be fixed with virtualbox-6.1.16-1.mga7.x86_64.rpm at least in my Windows XP guest. Bug 27479.
Comment 11 Thomas Andrews 2021-01-19 20:58:56 CET
Closing this as it now works for me, but I reserve the right to re-open it if it stops working again.
