I suggest this browser since it is lighter than google chrome customizable and supports DRM (Netflix, Amazon Prime)
Comment 1 Kristoffer Grundström 2019-04-17 22:11:47 CEST
This has already been asked for in another report.

No offence, Kaio, but please, when you open a report...... DON'T change the preset lines/rows in the Additional information field because it makes it harder to debug the problem.

Secondly, I personally don't like DRM software so I stay away from Netflix and similar services/websites.

If you want to use proprietary stuff, you could stick with Windows.

That last recommendation is a shame

That support is not 100% out of the box see bug#20108

What good would it do to use proprietary stuff in Linux if you want to move away from Windows?

Just asking, no harm meant.

I don't know how to answer to that question, i just know that
the "If you want to use proprietary stuff, you could stick with Windows" can produce more damage that any that could produce use proprietary stuff in linux, that is the kind of answer that discouragement the use of linux.

In a perfect world we only use Free-Libre software, but is not a perfect world,
so if can use a proprietary stuff gain a user to linux i think is a good thing.

Of course inform of the Free-Libre alternatives (if exist) is recommendable

I don't like to extend this more of the necessary, but each user would be able of decide how many proprietary kool-aid want to drink (nvidia drivers, windows applications through wine, etc)

No harm meant

If a user wants to use Linux to watch movies and TV shows there are open source alternatives to do so here:

https://alternativeto.net/software/netflix/?license=opensource&platform=linux

Not to forget Popcorn Time which amazingly still works and is updated (at least to Android, Mac and Windows).

From a user point of view is not a thing of use linux to see TV, is use linux and still be able to use a service.

BTW, in firefox activating Play DRM option and chromium-browser through the steps of the wiki https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_6_Errata#Chromium_Browser , the users can use Netflix and similar sites, i recommend that over the proprietary chromium-based browsers (even the google version) but if the user want to test other applications must have the possibility.

vivaldi provides rpms for 32bit (i think is the only proprietary that still does) and also for 64bit, they are compatible with mageia (but i don't like they use /opt) so i think is not big issue if mageia don't include it in their repositories, but we can help to users to get in the possible a better experience using vivaldi or other applications in mageia.
