Description Len Lawrence 2019-04-08 17:43:17 CEST
Description of problem:
MageiaWelcome as presented by the mga7beta3.2 iso has a problem with the 'Edit software sources' button under the 'Media Sources' tab. That "button" acts just like a label, black text, does not respond to mouse-click.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Mageia7 Plasma Live beta3 round 2

How reproducible:
Not known currently. Has been observed once.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Plasma Live from the iso on a USB key
2. Go to MageiaWelcome and select 'Media Sources'
3. Try to invoke 'drakrpm-editmedia' by clicking on 'Edit software sources'
Comment 1 Len Lawrence 2019-04-08 22:09:41 CEST
This is not a reproducible bug. On another machine the fault did not show up.

Setting to unconfirmed for now, then.

CC'ing papoteur in case some one reproduces the issue.

I had something very similar.
I e-mailed yves.brungard off channel about it, as it only occurred 1x in 4 installs on different machines, and was un-reproducable on the machine that initially displayed it..

for me, 'Edit software sources' was just text, no button.

That's what Len described, so this issue has now been confirmed.

Hi,
I don't reproduce the problem.
I have checked the code, it is the same for most of the buttons, thus I'm perplex about that.
Can you launch mageiawelcome from a terminal and eventually catch some messages in the console.
Comment 6 Len Lawrence 2019-04-13 16:04:03 CEST
@papoteur
That is the trouble with this - it does not always reproduce. I shall look around and see if I can find the system where this happened. It might have been overwritten by now. It may take some time.
Comment 7 Len Lawrence 2019-04-13 16:45:15 CEST
Could not reproduce the bug on an Xfce installation (round 2).
The following tests were for mga7beta3 round 3 - multiple desktops.

All on the same installation. Occasionally tried a detached process as well - no difference in the behaviour.

[Plasma]
$ mageiawelcome
/usr/share/mageiawelcome/helpers.py:37: UnicodeWarning: decode() called on unicode string, see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1693751

Ignore the following Glib::Object::Introspection & Gtk3 warnings

getting exclusive lock on urpmi
<no problem>

Similar output for other desktop environments - no problems encountered.
GNOME, Mate, Cinnamon, Xfce, Enlightenment

Checked launch from system menus also - no sign of the bug.
Shall continue to check in other trial installations, with Plasma in particular.

We can get more log messages with the command:

Comment 12 Len Lawrence 2019-06-03 21:00:04 CEST
After an mgaapplet upgrade from mga6 to mga7 the bug showed up in Xfce. Tried the suggestion in comment 11 and found that the button now appears and works as expected.
Terminal diagnostic:
/usr/share/mageiawelcome/helpers.py:37: UnicodeWarning: decode() called on unicode string.
reference is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1693751
release = (h['release']).decode("utf-8")
Comment 13 Martin Whitaker 2019-06-09 22:15:53 CEST
With a default all-DE install from Mageia-7-rc-x86_64.iso in VirtualBox, running in Xfce, I can easily reproduce the fault just by resizing the MageiaWelcome window (by dragging the corner of the window).

Comment 14 Len Lawrence 2019-06-13 17:48:27 CEST
Just confirmed the behaviour Martin reported in comment 13.
Applying the suggestion in comment 11 does not restore the button and the terminal message is the same as in comment 12.

Should be OK with comming commits.
