Description Herman Viaene 2019-04-02 10:22:28 CEST
Description of problem:
My Lenovo laptop has 2 graphical chipset: an Intel 810 and Radeon HD8670A (radeon/flgrx driver). The Intel is used by default and Plasma behaves OK with that.
I tried to configure the graphics in MCC with the Radeon, but when rebooting the process hangs after "Terminating boot screen". BTW: this is the same as I described in bug 23876.
So rebooted in recovery mode, selected the Intel again, rebooted and now Plasma comes on (sort of), but without any panel. And most of the actions I can call by right-clicking on the desktop just result in a hanging empty window. Exceptions are "Open Dolphin" and Konsole. From konsole I can start oowriter e.g. and that behaves normally.
I started again with MATE, deleted .kde, logged out and in again with Plasma, but to no avail.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
M7 Beta 3 installed from CI.

Created a brandnew user, started with that one in Plasma, and the problems are exactly the same.
Comment 2 Aurelien Oudelet 2021-05-17 01:15:30 CEST
Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade to the latest update of their distribution, and if this issue turns out to still be reproducible in the latest update, please reopen this bug with additional information.

Closing as OLD.

Hi, if you still have such hardware and the issue is still valid, please install inxi (urpmi inxi) and add here:

$ inxi -SGxx

Meanwhile, there are many upstream fix in KScreen (Plasma binary for handling graphic and screen) since Mageia 7 beta and now in Mageia 8.

Testing AMD chip, continuing .....
Comment 5 Herman Viaene 2021-05-18 10:38:40 CEST
Changed graphics setting in MCC to AMD-chip, this asks to reboot. Reboot hangs after mentioning "amdgpu" for more than 5 minutes. Forced reboot and tried to force initlevel 3, made some mistake and ended up with a complete dead M8 installation.
Will reinstall M8 and try again (this M8 partition has been used before for update testing, and i am not sure how healthy it still was before I started fiddling with this.
Comment 6 Aurelien Oudelet 2021-05-18 11:23:42 CEST
@Herman, for this AMD Sun XT [Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M / R5 M330 / M430 / Radeon 520 Mobile, you should use "radeon" instead of amdgpu.

Comment 7 Herman Viaene 2021-05-18 22:25:08 CEST
After re-installation and completely updating M8, checked MCC - Hardware for this card (graphics runnning on the Intel device) shows "Module: ‎Card:AMD Southern Islands and later (amdgpu)".
So according to your remark, this is wrong in the first place.
Comment 8 Aurelien Oudelet 2021-07-06 13:17:15 CEST
Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021.
There will not have any further bugfix for this release.

You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible.

@reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it.

@packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead.

This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.
Comment 9 Herman Viaene 2021-07-06 13:52:18 CEST
