Description of problem: if the Live installer (from Live Desktop) is cancelled after partitions are created (via custom disk partitioning) and then the Installer is restarted, the install will fail if the installer is required to now format the partitions after mount points are added (again using custom disk partitioning) as is unable to complete the formatting. if desktop is logged out . and back in, the installer "resets" and if un-interrupted, will complete install without issue. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot to a live desktop and start the installer 2.choose "custom disk partitioning" 3.create /, /swap, /home partitions and set mount points and press "done" 4.wait for this partition info to be written to disk. 5.cancel the installation. 6.restart the installer and repeat steps 2-4 by deleting and recreating the partitions. 7. check boxes to format partitions and 'ok' 8. formatting will fail.

At step 5, did the installer automatically restart or did you restart it manually? Which DE were you using?

"Live" technically is root (maybe)
given that restarting the desktop overcomes the issue, i am guessing a config file needs to be reset/ cleared / deleted if the installer is cancelled and restarted by the user.
(In reply to ben mcmonagle from comment #4) > "Live" technically is root (maybe) No, the "live" user has normal privileges. The reason you can run MCC, etc. without being asked for a password is that "root" does not have a password on the live system. My suspicion is that the new partitions are getting auto-mounted by Thunar (or the Plasma equivalent). That is what happens when the installer automatically restarts. Mind you, you should see that because Thunar would start opening file browser windows.

Ben, can you confirm that that's what's happening? Assigning to Martin, for a decision (after Ben's feedback) on what to do with this report :-)

I can't reproduce the bug by following the steps in the initial description - if I delete and recreate the partitions, the installer automatically formats them without stopping to ask. Ben, could you reproduce the fault whilst running the installer from a terminal window (as the normal "live" user), started by draklive-install |& tee install.log then, as root, run journalctl -b > journal.log mount > mount.log and attach the resulting log files
