Description of problem: At first logging Xfce, 2nd level items of Whisker Menu are truncated. I think french texts are longer than english ones. This problem does not occur in standard menu "Application Menu". For the same reason, icons on the desktop have their text more truncated because of the 3 points, they are almost unreadable for some of them. These 2 very little problems are so easily solved when you are familiar with Mageia that you may think they must not be relevant of bugzilla. But these 2 very little problems may, at first sight, may let new users believe Mageia is not so well-developed. Suggestion of solution (I do not know if it is possible, just try to contribute) For Whisker : have column of secund level items twice larger than first one. For icons on the desktop, have Parameters/Desktop/Icons/"Use custom font size" = true, size = 6.

6 for font size is way too small in desktop in some screens. The text is unreadable. So that's not a solution.

Created attachment 10850 [details] Screenshots asked by Marja. Icon text font size 10 make make icon text also unreadable. And for lot of screens it looks like the font size should have been reasonably reduced for the text being readable. The choice of an intermediate size, 8, will reduce the problem but not completely solve it. To completely solve this problem of unreadable text of icons of the desktop, or at least not well done look, perhaps the solution should be to have no more icons on the desktop. Except icon of "Removable device" to keep it easily under the user's eyes. All directories iconified on the desktop are more easily accessible by the File Manager in the panel than on the desktop where you have generaly to free it previously.

Added patch to 4.13.3-5.mga7 to disable ellipsizing by default.

Disabling ellipsizing is causing more issues with long texts than it fixes, so I'm thinking about reverting the change. See bug 24812 and bug 24812 comment 3.

Reporting here as this issue is clearly related: Desktop icon labels have no ellipsizing on default XFCE MGA8 install. Long texts often cover contiguous icons. Also some glitches as this text goes foreground/background if images on mouse cursor hover. Fortunately this is easy to fix creating a file: ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css with content: * { -XfdesktopIconView-ellipsize-icon-labels: 1; } Maybe some patch left around at build?

Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021. There will not have any further bugfix for this release. You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible. @reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it. @packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present.
