Description of problem: The Xorg program running under VBox (MGA6 host, nvidia graphics) continues to gobble memory under certain situations. The cache size shown by top continues to grow. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 1.20.3--3.mga7 How reproducible: Every time. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run MGA7-beta under vbox using kf5/plasma. 2. Start top in konsole window 3. Add widget CPU Load Monitor to desktop (not a panel) 4. Monitor memory usage in top
Dave Hodgins suggested this may be the same as https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24375 It is probably related, but not quite the same. My handware is similar, i5-2500 cpu but using nvidia graphics instead of Intel. Also I see no difference in behaviour between the different desktop themes, all 4 exhibit the same problem. Also, it is clear that on William's machine, it is plasmashell which is hogging the memory, but in my case it is Xorg itself. In the "top" screen grab I provided you can see that the memory it is using is cache which it never releases. Things I have tried:- Everything on the System Settings Compositor screen. Turning off the compositor. All the workspace themes. None seem to affect the memory usage much. The use of CPU Load Monitor is not essential to show the problem, just clicking on the Activities icon in the default panel repeatably will increase the memory used by Xorg. The attachment is the screen grab of top which shows the problem using a new user, i.e. no settings changed..

I have now installed MGA7-beta-2 on the same machine but on bare metal rather than under vbox and I cannot reproduce the problem. So it seems to be a problem restricted to the vbox display driver. No problem under nouveau or the nvidia driver, although I did have to jump through a few hoops to get nouveau to move out of the way to let initrd load nvidia.

At some point a newer version has fixed the problem. No memory leak under VBox anymore.
