Assigning to all packagers collectively, since there is no registered maintainer for this package.

Also CC'ing some committers.

Please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Possible workaround:
in XINE, go to settings => Setup
  - in gui, change user level to advanced
  - then in video select a specific "video driver to use", e.g. "opengl" or "opengl2"
(it looks like xine already tried "vdpau" and "xv", both failed)

Comment 5 Christiaan Welvaart 2019-01-06 17:27:18 CET
The Xorg log looks OK, so I don't know why xvideo (xv) does not work.

Anyway, although on my machine xine does play videos in a window, it stops (crashes) when I put it in full screen mode. It refuses to switch to xv output and with opengl/opengl2 output, full screen only covers part of the screen. Maybe we should remove xine from the distro?

Comment 7 Lewis Smith 2019-02-01 12:05:26 CET
Late Jan beta2 Classic, Radeon video, Xfce desktop.
I had added Tainted audio codecs, but not video ones.
Xine works fine on the one .mp4 video file I have. True that from a terminal:
 $ xine
...
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_r600.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
vo_vdpau: Can't create vdp device : No vdpau implementation.
but its GUI pops up, and that works. The video started running by itself, and went full-screen & back without crashing. Repeatedly.
Will try it from other desktops; Ben cites LXDE.

Drastic. It is well known, even though there are more modern alternatives. Perhaps we could exclude it from ISOs (so long as there *is* an alternative), but leave it available.
