Description of problem: Raising Dolphin or Konqeror from (so far) Gnome & XFCE desktops reveals many icons missing in the panel displays. I think this is something we saw in Mageia 6, but cannot find the bug (there is one about when invoked as root). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): M7beta1 2 Dec 2018 Classic ISO 5 desktops. dolphin-18.08.3-1.mga7 konqueror-18.08.3-1.mga7 How reproducible: Always. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Just launch the applications.
Having now tried more M7beta1 desktops, it looks as if this problem is for non-Plasma desktops - at least so far Gnome & XFCE. Under Plasma, all is well. Title revised accordingly.
Summary: Konqueror and Dolphin are missing icons => Konqueror and Dolphin are missing icons under non-Plasma desktops
More tests = better news: Dolphin/Konquerer FM icons are *good* for: Plasma, LXDE, Mate. Missing for: Gnome, XFCE. Do not know yet for Cinnamon.

I don't know who should fix this: the KDE maintainers or the maintainers of Gnome and Xfce. Assigning to the KDE maintainers and CC'ing the others. If the KDE maintainers cannot fix it, then this report must be duplicated so that there's one report to assign to the Gnome maintainers and one to assign to wally.

My guess would be the defective desktop maintainers (Gnome, XFCE) given that LXDE & Mate get it right. Can anybody check out Cinnamon? I did not install it as it was known broken.
Can't reproduce with Xfce. BTW, it's Xfce, not XFCE.

Created attachment 10552 [details] Xfce example of Dolphin Dolphin is not in Xfce menus. Should it be? Raised from the menu search box.

Gnome: The results under Gnome are identical to the two attached images, but it has proved impossible to take a screenshot and get hold of the output - from 3 different utilities including Spectacle. Waste your time... (In reply to Jani Välimaa from comment #5) > Can't reproduce with Xfce. Could it be because this installation has many desktops?
(In reply to Lewis Smith from comment #8) > > (In reply to Jani Välimaa from comment #5) > > Can't reproduce with Xfce. > Could it be because this installation has many desktops? Sorry, I misunderstood the issue. I thought it was about the missing app menu icon. And as a side note. I can't give other than low priority support for other DE apps in Xfce and Xfce apps in other DEs.
Both GNOME and Xfce uses Adwaita as a default icon theme. Seems that Adwaita (and its fallback theme hicolor icon theme) is missing some icons that at least Dolphin uses. We have two options: 1. File upstream bug report about missing icons in adwaita-icon-theme. 2. Force Breeze to be fallback icon theme in KDE System Settings (Application Style -> GNOME Application Style (GTK) -> Icon Themes -> Fallback Theme). We can start with the second one, but the first one is preferable as second one mixes icon themes and makes UI inconsistent between apps.
At last playing with Cinnamon (ex SDDM). New up-to-date 6-desktop installation. The problem is here, but worse: no icons at all for '/'. Gnome & Xfce had one for 'tmp'.

As of now, this has been fixed; well done. Classic x64 end Jan 2019, 6 desktops installed. I have checked that Dolphin is icon complete under Cinnamon, Gnome, LXDE, Mate, Plasma, Xfce. It is still missing from Xfce menus, no big deal.

Many dolphin icons are still missing under GNOME.

M7beta3 XFCE from SDDM; 6 desktop Classic x64 install real H/w. For Dolphin, this is icon complete (allowing for a blank grey icon for obscure file types). Same true for Konqueror as file manager. Gnome to check.
As above: M7b3 real HW 6 d/t Classic x64 install, Gnome from SDDM. Both Dolphin & Konqueror are now icon complete for Gnome as well as Xfce; allowing for grey ones for unknown file types (which, also for previous comment, curiously include .mp3 & .ogg , both bog standard. No matter).

This is a fresh Install with Mageia 7-beta-2 GNOME. I have made all the recent updates. And the symbols in dolphin are still missing. What must I install to get the symbol icons?
Franz: - I used M7 beta 3 (updated); you cite beta 2. - I used the Classic installer; yourself? Gnome Live yet to try. - I have yet to try Cinnamon (forgot it); and other desktops than Xfce & Gnome. I am mystified why we are getting different results.
M7beta3 x64 real H/W Classic ISO 6 desktop install Further to comments 16 & 18, trying specifically (from LightDM): Cinnamon Dolphin Konqueror both are icon complete. In fact Konqueror showed default grey ones for a file type with its own icon under Dolphin; trivial. Uphold the bug's resolution.
- I used M7 beta 2 new Install with Classic Installer - Only GNOME has been installed - Then I made updates of all packages
