Description Mike Rambo 2018-09-24 17:16:27 CEST
Description of problem:
If kscreenlocker is configured to show a slideshow instead of just a static image the lock screen will eventually crash. You have to go to a console and reboot the machine as unlocking sessions has no effect.

How reproducible:
I have four mga6 all of which exhibit this behavior (though fwiw my cauldron laptop does it too).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. System Settings -> Desktop Behavior -> Screen Locking
2. Choose Appearance tab
3. Set Wallpaper type for slideshow
4. Click Add folder, add /usr/share/mga/screensaver
5. Wait.

It takes anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days but eventually the locker will crash. When it does you cannot click in the password field to enter a password and the unlock button is dead. Cauldron actually tends to be a little quicker in failing than mga6 most of the time. I've also tried using a photo folder in $HOME but that doesn't make any difference. I have to CTRL ALT F2 and reboot.

Still valid cauldron 5.14.4-2
Comment 4 David GEIGER 2019-01-25 15:23:34 CET
And with 5.14.5-1 in Core/Updates_testing?

Comment 5 David GEIGER 2019-01-25 15:24:52 CET
Is this issue reported upstream?
Comment 6 Mike Rambo 2019-01-25 16:39:54 CET
I asked upstream about the problem via IRC before I opened the bug here. I received one response.

[13:45:16] <tosky> stratocaster7: given that path in the error message, I would maybe ask to the Mageia packagers on whather the theme is correct

I didn't see a bug upstream then and can't find one now. Google doesn't turn up anything elsewhere (other distros) either.
Comment 7 Mike Rambo 2019-01-25 16:48:48 CET
Installed 5.14.5-1 from Core/Updates_testing and enabled the slideshow. I'm in waiting mode now because while it can happen fairly quick, most times it takes awhile to show up.
Comment 8 David GEIGER 2019-01-25 17:33:01 CET
hmmmm! this should be come from:

kf5.kpackage: No metadata file in the package, expected it at: "/usr/share/mga/screensaver/"

But this metadata file has never existed :(
Comment 9 Mike Rambo 2019-01-25 17:43:02 CET
Yes, I saw those but was never convinced they were more than coincidental. There are dozens of them in the logs on my cauldron laptop right now but it has not yet locked up on version 5.14.5 (if it ever does).
Comment 10 Mike Rambo 2019-01-29 20:51:45 CET
Just found my cauldon laptop with 5.14.5-1 has locked up too so the problem still exists in the new version. I've been working on other stuff so I don't know how long it has taken but the machine had been on for close to seven hours when I noticed the problem.
Comment 11 Mike Rambo 2019-03-26 19:52:20 CET
Problem still exists with 5.15.3 on cauldron.
Comment 12 Mike Rambo 2019-06-11 15:12:04 CEST
This problem appears to fixed with 5.15.4 on cauldron/mga7. I still see the journal messages in comment 8 on the machines I have upgraded but they no longer lock up when using a slideshow. I left one of the machines I upgraded running over a long four day weekend and it was still ok when I got back the next week. I looked at the changelog to see if anything stuck out that might be back ported to fix mga6 but didn't see anything that looked related (if it was even kscreenlocker itself that got the change that fixed the problem).
Comment 13 Mike Rambo 2019-09-19 14:42:10 CEST
As noted in comment 12 this was fixed in cauldron/mga7 by changes made upstream. Closing the bug since Mageia 6 will be EOL soon, and it won't likely ever be fixed there.
