The only difficulty was getting bluetooth working on one of them. It took several attempts before pairing succeeded with a wireless audio speaker but on the Skylake machine it connected immediately. On real hardware, Athlon X2 7750, 8GB RAM, nvidia 9800GT graphics (nvidia340 driver), Atheros wifi. One 64-bit Plasma system, using the server kernel and with VirtualBox installed. One 32-bit Xfce system, using the desktop586 kernel as installed by the Mageia 6.1 test Live iso. Packages installed cleanly on both systems. No problems building the new nvidia kernel modules, as far as I can see. Checked all the usual suspects after rebooting, no problems noted. Looks OK on this hardware.

Leaving this laptop as is in case someone might require more info on the current configuration.

Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop, 32-bit P4, 1GB RAM, Radeon 7500 graphics, old Atheros wifi, 32-bit Xfce system using the desktop kernel. The 6.1 LiveDVD had installed the desktop586 kernel on this machine, but I switched to the desktop kernel before this update, as it is more appropriate for the P4 processor. All packages installed cleanly. I played with it for a while after the reboot, with no regressions noted. OK on this hardware.
@ tmb on bug23544 Comment 6: I hate to disagree with you, because I will lose at the end, but I cann't see why this kernel update should be any different from all the previous ones I ever tested and installed. The default is always set to the latest kernel, and this is the first time I see this.

sorry, should have been kernel 4.14.68-1

The default is always set to the latest > kernel, and this is the first time I see this. Sounds like you ran into the long-standing Bug #16268. I see it every time I remove multiple kernels. As Ben advised, running update-grub should repair the situation. I have taken to routinely running that command every time I remove a kernel, just to avoid the annoyance. I'm not in a position to confirm this, but I believe that if you were to remove the old kernels BEFORE going after the kernel update, you would avoid the bug, since grub is updated as part of the kernel installation process. The bug only seems to crop up when removing a kernel.

From bug 23560 ... LuismaGo 2018-09-11 16:13:24 CDT Description of problem: I've found that in recent kernels (>=4.14) the option "CONFIG_SPI_INTEL_SPI_PCI" (and thus "CONFIG_SPI_INTEL_SPI") are enabled in Mageia: $ grep CONFIG_SPI_INTEL_SPI /boot/config-4.14.65-desktop-1.mga6 CONFIG_SPI_INTEL_SPI=m CONFIG_SPI_INTEL_SPI_PCI=m # CONFIG_SPI_INTEL_SPI_PLATFORM is not set As a result, the modules below are compiled in these kernels: $ ls /lib/modules/4.14.65-desktop-1.mga6/kernel/drivers/mtd/spi-nor/intel-spi* /lib/modules/4.14.65-desktop-1.mga6/kernel/drivers/mtd/spi-nor/intel-spi.ko.xz /lib/modules/4.14.65-desktop-1.mga6/kernel/drivers/mtd/spi-nor/intel-spi-pci.ko.xz These modules are known to produce severe BIOS corruption on certain Lenovo (and other brands, too) laptops. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1734147 for a quick refresh of the bug. Unsetting "CONFIG_SPI_INTEL_SPI_PLATFORM" was fine to avoid the bug, but kernels starting at version 4.14 include a new option "CONFIG_SPI_INTEL_SPI_PCI", that is not disabled in Mageia configuration. I don't really know the actual impact of these issue on a Lenovo laptop, but as far as I know, other distros are disabling both configuration options and in kernels starting at version 4.18 both SPI_INTEL_SPI_PCI and SPI_INTEL_SPI_PLATFORM are marked as "DANGEROUS" (see https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/mtd/spi-nor/Kconfig#L92) So, IMHO this option should be disabled also in Mageia.

Four OK 64 bit: machines updated to all updates in all updates_testing repos incl kernel-desktop-4.14.69-1.mga6-1-1.mga6.x86_64.rpm , quick test + continue to be used, three of them daily: --- 64 bit OK on my workstation: i7-2600K, Nvidia GTX760 (GK104) using proprietary driver GeForce 420 and later, with CUDA & OpenCL detected OK in BOINC, LVM on LUKS on SSD, VirtualBox running MSW7, Plasma5.12 etc, video in Firefox,,, --- 64 bit OK on laptop Thinkpad T61, with Nvidia GPU proprietary driver, LVM on SSD. Updated to all updates in all updates_testing repos. All installed cleanly Resume from suspend is OK incl wifi and video in firefox resumes but sound go missing on the video until i restart firefox. This one is running MATE, all other are Plasma dektops. --- 64 bit OK on laptop Thinkpad T60, CPU core2Duo T5600, ati RV515/M54 X1400, wifi AR5418, LVM on LUKS on SSD. Tested OK Resume from suspend and hibernation is OK incl wifi and video in firefox. --- 64 bit OK on laptop Acer Aspire 7 A717-71G: Intel i5, Nvidia and Intel GPU:s but only intel is configured, as per default in Mageia installer. Disk: nVME SSD, EFI boot, separate /boot, then rest of system in LVM lv:s in a LUKS encrypted pv. Suspend-resume incl wifi etc works. Have no time now to test if it still fail hibernate-resume, Bug 22804 (have never worked for me) ------ Could be bad luck, but the T60 and Aspire laptops wifi both drops out after resume, and needed manual disconnect-connect using net_applet almost every resume. That have happened before but not this often...

It also fixes atleast the following security issues: Memory leak in the irda_bind function in net/irda/af_irda.c and later in drivers/staging/irda/net/af_irda.c in the Linux kernel before 4.17 allows local users to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) by repeatedly binding an AF_IRDA socket (CVE-2018-6554). The irda_setsockopt function in net/irda/af_irda.c and later in drivers/staging/irda/net/af_irda.c in the Linux kernel before 4.17 allows local users to cause a denial of service (ias_object use-after-free and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via an AF_IRDA socket (CVE-2018-6554). Other fixes in this update: * WireGuard has been updated to 0.0.20180904 * all SPI_INTEL_SPI config options have been disable to prevent a potential bios corrupting bug (mga#23560) For other changes in this update, see the referenced changelogs. references: - https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23543 - https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23560 - https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/ChangeLog-4.14.66 - https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/ChangeLog-4.14.67 - https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/ChangeLog-4.14.68 - https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/ChangeLog-4.14.69

Real hardware, HP Probook 6550b, i3, 8GB RAM, Intel graphics, Intel wifi, 64-bit Plasma system, using the desktop kernel. All packages installed cleanly, reboot was uneventful and successful. I played with this and tat for a half hour, with no regressions noted. Looks OK on this hardware.
Installed and tested without regressions. Tested for 2 days of normal desktop use and extra tests. No regressions noticed.
