During a discussion on usenet, found out that the ossp package (unless specifically selected) is only installed if the windowmaker desktop environment is installed on Mageia 6 systems. Haven't checked cauldron, but expect it's the same. As per the comments in /etc/modprobe.d/snd-oss.conf from the sound-scripts package, the snd-oss modules are blacklisted in order to allow providing oss support via the osspd deamon. While the sound-scripts package is installed on all Mageia systems by default, the ossp package is not. Easiest way to fix this would be to add the ossp package as a requires in the pulseaudio and likely also in one of the alsaplayer packages. Workaround is to manually install the ossp package for people running programs that need oss sound support.
