Description Dave Hodgins 2018-07-21 22:49:08 CEST
During a discussion on usenet, found out that the ossp package (unless
specifically selected) is only installed if the windowmaker desktop environment
is installed on Mageia 6 systems. Haven't checked cauldron, but expect it's the
same.

As per the comments in /etc/modprobe.d/snd-oss.conf from the sound-scripts
package, the snd-oss modules are blacklisted in order to allow providing oss
support via the osspd deamon.

While the sound-scripts package is installed on all Mageia systems by default,
the ossp package is not.

Easiest way to fix this would be to add the ossp package as a requires in the
pulseaudio and likely also in one of the alsaplayer packages.

Workaround is to manually install the ossp package for people running programs
that need oss sound support.

NAK.

ossp is a dead project, and useless for most users...
