Description of problem: As of recently, the buttons to open the "Projects" and "Documents" tabs, and the "Current Project" or "Search and Replace" tools stopped working. That is, clicking those buttons highlights them, but does not open the corresponding widgets. The actual tabs can still be accessed using custom keyboard shortcuts, so it seems to be just the buttons malfunctioning. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 17.12.2 How reproducible: All the time. Steps to Reproduce: 1. open file in Kate from a Git working tree 2. click the Documents, Projects, "Search and replace" or "Current Project" buttons 3. watch as the tabs don't open (or close, if they were already open)

I can confirm this bug as i use kate all the days to code in C++. To be more precise, the "button" that Jérome talk are the sidebar tabs for right, left and bottom sides. You can activate these views through the menu, as with the keyboard shortcuts. Note that KF5 framework KWidgetsaddons can be concerned by this problem. Typically, the widget KMultiTabBar is used to display this kind of view in Kate. I just checked the kate source code. So it certainly a DOWNSTREAM bug in KDE framework, or more in-depth, in Qt5 framework as the dysfunction appear for me just after to just from Qt5.6 to Qt 5.9 through Mageia6 update. Gilles Caulier

Note : KDevelop which use also sidebar do not have this problem... Gilles Caulier
I am seeing the very same issues in Kile. So this is a general KDE/Qt issue. Perhaps it would be better to assign it to a different package?
