Description Bob Bob 2018-06-28 22:37:32 CEST
Description of problem:
Mageia don't use Gnome template

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
task-gnome-minimal-3.24.2-1.mga6.noarch.rpm
task-gnome-3.24.2-1.mga6.noarch.rpm

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Right click on a folder
2.You see context menu

The menu doesn't show any option to create a new document. Only the new folder option is enable.

How fix to it:
Save a document template in /home/user/Modèles (Fr path)

It could be a good idea to give with Gnome some empty template like:
.txt
.odt
.ods
.odp

You could find the Gnome doc here:
https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/stable/files-templates.html.en

For a newbie like me, it was not easy to find.
By the way, Nautilus haven't too features, so desactivated a few is a luxury =)

Hi Bob Bob,

We did _not_ deactivate an option to have "empty" templates installed by default in the user's templates directory
Upstream Gnome doesn't add them. They think it is up to the Linux distributions to decide to add them (or not), see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/811

I'm not sure it would be good for us to add templates by default, because
* it is a lot of extra work to do that well, including having translated
  template names for every language
* it is easily forgotten to update a template or add a language, when needed
* most users will want their own, custom templates

A separate templates package would be better, if someone maintains it, but I could only find Nautilus Templates https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1115335/ which is unmaintained and incomplete.

Besides, in the two years since it was opened, no one commented in this report and Mageia 6 is no longer maintained.

So closing this report as OLD.

If you still want this feature in a maintained Mageia version, Bob Bob, then reopen this report and please change "Version:" in the upper left from "6" to "Cauldron"

Marja
