Description of problem: After installing the package, this and other applications fail to start. After rebooting Mageia, KDE environment does not launch anymore. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 17.12.2 How reproducible: Simply installing the package on a fresh Mageia 6 from the Mageia Control Center. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Just install the package, or follow steps 2 to 4. 2. Add FTP media sources on the Mageia Control Center. 3. Select the package from the Install & Remove software list. 4. Click on it and then apply. 5. After installation try opening Kate -> it will fail. 6. Reboot, and KDE will not launch.

I can't imagine Kate stopping KDE from launching even if there are issues with Kate. I just installed the package and as result KDE starting behaving wrong (application windows closed immediately after opening them, and when rebooting Plasma did not start anymore). I reinstalled Mageia, and to be sure I was not hallucinating, I repeated the install of Kate on the fresh system. Again I got the same story. I did not run the system update before installing the package, I just added FTP media and found the package on the list using rpmdrake. Maybe that's indeed the problem. I will try to run the --auto-update command asap and I will come back with more info later. Greetings!

I tried the urpmi --auto-update command on the damaged system, but the update failed at some part and when rebooting even stranger things happened. I had no command line anymore because the system got sucked at some point waiting for something to happen. I waited 10 minutes but nothing happened, so I powered off and reinstalled Mageia. Since I could not run journalctl -ab > boot.log, I haven't much more to tell :| I will try the system Grand Update from zero, and hopefully I can install Kate by then. I hope I don't have to follow this procedure anymore. It is very painful.
If this bug still affects you, I would suggest that you download a copy of the Mageia 6.1 Plasma LiveDVD iso, and install Plasma once more from there. I would recommend that you use a specific mirror for your updates, rather than MIRRORLIST. Sometimes, MIRRORLIST connects you with a mirror that doesn't update from Mageia as often as it might. Get the latest updates (there should not be TOO many), including the latest kernel, reboot into the new kernel, and then try installing kate once more. That SHOULD work. (It does for me.)

Mageia 6 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-09-30. It is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates.
